Well cinema wouldnt be what it is if it wasnt for Edwin S Porter, D.W. Griffith and later François Truffaut and Hitchcock.

I think 2001 is the only Kubrick film I havn't seen all the way through. I can't get past the apeman intro and I'm a wee bit ashamed of myself for that. I'm know one day I'll watch it and love it but I don't think I'd fully appreciate it just now.

I think Stanley Kubrick does great work, EWS and The Shining are favs on my list 😄
Also Tim Burton, Big Fish and Edward Scissorhands was great, am looking forward to Willy Wonka very much so.
And of course Peter Jackson, who took the LOTR books and created a masterpiece 😄

Im sorry but Peter Jackson is not the the same leaque as Speilbergh or Kubrick, or Hitchcock. He's done 4 movies, and one of the them was the Frighteners.

Well the LOTR movies were excellent, he deserves credit for them.
And I think Speilbergh is over rated in the fact that now his work can slip and people wouldn't have the guts to criticize, they would just praise him anyways.

Yah, he deserves credit but... Most influential..i dont think so.

i agree with people said kubrick.. He has alot of excellent movies.
With Speilbergh...he has made movies abot controversial subjects. EX Schindlers List, Amistad and war movies that rival Full Metal Jacket: Saving Private Ryan. For the 3 Lord of the Rings, You got the excellent Indy movies. and why dont we just Minority Report and AI, and Jaws (which made people fear the water so much, they didnt want to swim)

In ten to twenty years, if Peter Jackson does more movies that turn out good then yes ill put him in the Kubrick, Hitchock and Speilberg list.

I agree with you, but he's actually done 7. 3 of which are cult classics in, "Meet The Feebles", "Dead Alive", and "Bad Taste"

And the thread is actually best director/most influential so he's still up there for me 😄

I've got "2001" to watch tomorrow. Trailer looked good, and the late 60's were great for Sci Fi.

For me, all the director's you've mentioned and Martin Scorcese. And Copolla (Francis Ford).

Orson Wells and Hitchcock for me are probably the two most influential directors, both responsible for defining moments in cinema history.

i like Jerry Bruckheimer

Jerry Bruckheimer is a producer.

i think it depends on kindsof movie. Horror = Hitchcock, Fantasy= Speilbergh, Lucusand burton, Action= Tarantino

2001 is prob the hardest of all kubrick movies to watch. Dr. strangelove is prob my favorite of all his movies. and as for classifying the directors, i would give kubrick most artistic and/or score.

Cinemaddiction.........also pick up the sequel......2010 : The Year We Make Contact..........it's actually goes in depth a bit with the story that happened in 2001.

its gotta be Scorsese, Scott or Kubrick for me.

David Lean.

Note to self: Don't ever rent another Stanley Kubrick movie for as long as I live.

I was bored out of my skull with this one. After "Last House on the Left" and "Return fo the Living Dead", I feel as if I am destined to strike out when taking reccomendations from you people. 😮

if you want a good kubrick film watch full metal jacket or Dr. Stange love (if you like b/w) trust me they are great movies!
