STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Liberator

The Senators assume their places in the stadium-style seating, with each row raised clearly above the next in order to give everyone full view of the front of the room (which does not ease Wentar in the least). Senator Darcil sits near the front; Senator Bremack near the back.

Farl clears his throat and calls the meeting to order, welcoming them all to the umpteenth meeting of the Sentient Rights Committee.

"Do those in attendance have any matters that need be addressed before we begin?" Farl asks, though he leaves very little time for anyone to answer before he says, "No? Excellent. I believe in our last meeting we voted to hold off further discussion of the situation with the Kylugo Srum slavers until this present convocation. Do we agree to resume it?"

"You WOULD bring it up first," shouts Darcil from the front rows. "There are more pressing matters than the Kylugo Srum!"

The Committee immediately flares up at the mention of the Kylugo Srum and Darcil's comment. Farl produces a small metal gaffle from his podium and bangs it as he tries to regain order.

Wentar is going to assume Farl is too busy to listen to any of his questions right now.

Is the Committee in chaos or is there a definite split between two parties?

Does Wentar know anything about Kylugo Srum?

It appears to be in total chaos.

Being an anti-slavery advocate, Wentar does know of the Kylugo Srum. They are a bunch of well-to-do pirates that operate on the edge of Republic space. For them, things are simple; they stay away from major Republican planets and hit targets that are too far out to assist. They occasionally perform raids to harvest people or take crews captive for the slave trade.

There are worse than the Kylugo Srum, but they are a problem.

Wentar will observe how things unfold from here. Right now he feels he doesn't have any official right to say anything during this meeting so it's best he stay quiet and talk to Farl about any questions he has at the end of it.

"Ladies and gentlemen, please, come to order!" Farl says, and the Commission begins to quiet down. "As Chairman I want to discuss the Kylugo Srum and so we will. We might as well finish old business before we turn to new matters. Is that alright with you, Senator Darcil?"

Darcil gives a weary nod, pursing his lips.

"I believe I have made it very clear what my stance on the Kylugo Srum is," Farl says. "They are a serious threat to Republic security, and their strike forces need to be routed. From what our intelligence has gathered, their headquarters is somewhere in Republic space to begin with."

"Merely rumors," Darcil voices. "We do not have the location, nor anything to prove that said location will be found within our borders. Without the location, requisitioning forces from the Judicial Department would be a waste of time."

There is chatter amongst the Senators; most seem to agree with Darcil.

"Nonetheless, I want to propose utilizing the help of the Exploration Corps," Farl says. You know of the Exploration Corps, Wentar; it is a Jedi-run organization dedicated to exploration of unknown space and recording sentient and wildlife on the planets they come across. "Their scouts could prove able to find this hidden base of operations that the Kylugo Srum operate out of."

"That is not their purpose, Chairman," Senator Bremack speaks up, from the back. "The ExplorCorps are glorified naturalists, not militant recon scouts. You would be putting them in unnecessary risk, as well as pumping money into their organization for a possibly pointless task."

"Pointless?" Farl asks.

"Pointless in that there are more dangerous pirates out there than the Kylugo Srum, and I fail to see the reason for your obsession with them," Bremack says.

This brings the Senators back to a roaring argument.

It doesn't take a use of Empathy to know these guys are sick of Farl's persistence with the Kylugo Srum. Yet another thing to talk to him about!

"Is there always this much uproar?" Wentar quietly asks, a little crest fallen that there is this much chaos amongst the Senators who actively oppose slavery.

It is impossible for Farl to hear you above the din as he brings order back to the Commission.

"Do you forget that it is the Kylugo Srum that sacked many planets well within Republic space?" Farl says. "Regardless of whether or not we can find their hidden base of operations, the fact remains that their pillaging occured not on the fringes of our control, but further in. That is a seriously issue."

"The Tyr-sen have been doing the same," Bremack says, "and with greater ferocity."

"That has not been proven by our sources," Farl says.

It'd be nice to see some Senators support Farl's ideas... Wentar's beginning to wonder how Farl got his position at this rate. Of course this is only one meeting, they surely can't be at each others throats all the time.

Darcil and Bremack are being outspoken about their negative views of his leadership of the Commission; just because it is delving into chaotic ramblings against itself does not mean Farl has no support. You sense that most admire him, but the arguments still come.

But the Tyr-sen... you have heard of them. One of the most brutal slavery clans out there, known for experimenting on slaves to make them more obedient or more efficient. Greatly enjoy initiating raids against difficult targets; if successful, they strip everything they can use from their target, but if unsuccessful, they blow up everything they possibly can so that nobody uses anything ever again. They are big fish compared to the Kylugo Srum.

Farl is saying, however, that they are not currently a notable threat to Republic security. You cannot be sure of that yourself; he may have access to information you are not aware of, being the Chairman.

Well by the sounds of things Tyr-sen would probably require more resources and effort to take down then the Kylugo Srum. Wentar, personally, would be willing to put in more effort, but at the same time the Republic isn't exactly built for large military operations, at least not until the Clone Wars.

The main issue seems to be that there is a split between Farl, who says that the Tyr-sen are not a threat, and the Senators who say that they currently are. The Commission is given a vast amount of resources; pirate clans can only get so large within Republic space before they become a concern to the entire Senate and the Jedi Order.

"Do you maintain that the reports from the Banock Moon could have been of the activities of the Kylugo Srum?" Darcil asks. "Our experts have already noted that the attacks there were more in keeping with the tactics of Tyr-sen."

"Others disagree with those findings," Farl says to confirm his dispute with that answer. "If you track the Tyr-sen movements they have been keeping outside of Republic space; they know what could happen to them if they keep up their strikes on our planets. The fact remains that the Srum are operating from within. That is far more worthy of our efforts!"

A fair few of the Senators voice their agreement, which seems to quiet Darcil.

"Do you propose a time-frame within which to find the Srum, then?" Bremack queries. "Our requisitions are only approved for so long."

"I do, actually," Farl says, placing a small data chip into his podium which brings up a holographic display of charts.

Wentar can't help but accept that the Republic has to help itself before it can do anything outside it's own borders.

Can Wentar understand anything on these charts or do they just look like a bunch of numbers and lines with no comprehension to him?

That is a given; the Republic has no authority outside its own borders as it is, and anything efforts made that far out would be a waste of time for the Senate.

The charts have been compiled by Senator Farl to map out where the Kylugo Srum have been confirmed to have launched attacks, and then also where they may have been. Farl starts to expound on his plan to use the ExplorCorps to search the area of space he has pinpointed, intent on winning everyone over.

You sense a strong surge of sadness and notice that Emso has taken his leave of the Commission meeting.

Oh man, Emso was here the entire time? I thought the meeting was for Senators only.

Would Wentar be able to go after Emso? Does Farl's plan look like he'll be explaining it for awhile?

He is acting as Senator Farl's bodyguard as well, or Wentar would not be welcome in the meeting either.

If you want to chase down Emso, Farl isn't stopping you.

May as well while I have the chance. I can always get a recap from Farl when I get back.

Emso has gone out into the hallway and is walking down a ways when he notices that you have followed him.

"Y-yes, Master Jedi?" Emso says, recovering himself slightly.

"Is something the matter, Emso?" Wentar asks, kindly, approaching him. "I sensed that you were upset back in the meeting."

"Everything's fine," he says. You sense he is lying.

"Emso, I know something is wrong. I want to help, but I can't if you don't tell me what it is," Wentar says. "You can trust me."
