Oh my god....why that date?! I can't take off work then!
On the other hand that means I'll be able to get it at midnight...
Aren't you quitting because your new boss is a bluh bluh huge *****?
I look forward to seeing this succeed. Hopefully that'll convince people that free to play is the way of the future.
Never tried GWs before (I was really into WoW at that time so never managed to try it out). What's the difference between it and other MMOs? Does it still follow the gear > all kind of grinding gameplay prevalent in a lot of MMOs like WoW? Is it highly susceptible to lag issues like WoW was? How will it be round Asia lag-wise? Is the interface easy to use/customizable?
Looking for a new game to get hooked to as D3 is starting to wear me down. 😛
It's difficult to answer that simply. It's much more like an MMO thn GW1, which was really only pretending to be an MMO in the way we see it as everything except the cities were instanced, so there was no persistent gaming world. GW2 has that persistency.
However, in most ways it is trying to break away from the MMO mould. No traditional questing, a dynamic world, and no grinding for better gear- pretty much everyone will have appropriate gear for their level and max-level gear will be easy to get once you are max level. The only harder to get gear will be cosmetic.
They are following an anti-grind philosophy. In reality, nothing is ever that simple but I can tell you it is definitely different from the WoW norm. Less grindy, more dynamic, more fun, from my opinion.
The GW1 interface was quite customisable. The Beta GW 2 one is not. Whether it will be at release or later, we can only wait and see on.
Between crafting and spending the karma you're going to collect from doing events, it's really easy to keep armor and gear up to your level. And that's even if you're like I am and decided you need to unlock every single weapon skill available -and- keep all of those weapons available at all times.
I know they made changes to the UI for the second BWE, and some customization was available - I hid my minimap on accident and couldn't figure out how to make it come back 😛

Sylvari and asura are playable for the final beta!
This makes me happy. I've been waiting to try out sylvari 😄
So. Since the last beta is in a week and a half and game release is in just over a month and a half, anyone else have server/guild plans?
GK and I have been playing on Eternal Grove during the betas, and I'm planning on making that server my permanent home. Most of my friends are there, as well as a number of other large GW2 fansites. Amusingly we originally picked it as a backup because the original one we wanted to go with became the unofficial reddit server and we were afraid it'd be overcrowded - and then EG turned out to be one of the highest population servers as well. I take partial credit for that happening 😄
I've also already got a guild going during the BWEs that I'll be carrying over into release, that shares the name of my site - Under the Pale Tree [Pale]. Smallish so far and it'll probably stay that way - basically just a gathering of friends of mine that want to do PvE stuff together.
You can join multiple guilds, they're cross-server, and you're not restricted to only playing on your home server (you can only do WvW on it but you can guest to others if you want). There's a list of the servers here.
