Guild Wars 2 finally starts to come to life

I really doubt it would seem as 'taking it easy' from an objective view...

No one camps spawn spots in this game...doing so is a complete waste of time. You get way more stuff just going always going all over instead of sticking to one spot. A friend and I spent a few hours in Dredgehaunt Cliffs last night (for the record, a mesmer and a necro together = watch all the things die) and we both have a pretty big stash of level 3 and 4 fine materials...not to mention stacks of iron, wood, silver, and at least half a stack of gold ore each.

And 70 in a week isn't taking it easy at all 😛

Ush, you should join my guild.

1-80 is doable in 4 days if you go hardcore (some of my friends did). I'm still at 72 at over a week. 😛 I'm doing all the story quests and clearing some of the maps of accomplishments as well as avoided doing the speed lvling tips my friends are suggesting. So, it's actually taking it easy, more or less. 😛

Why rush, though?

Oooh, trading post is up yessssssssss.

Ding! 80. O_O Now to farm some gear...

...are you actually playing the game, or are you just treating it as a grindfest and gear treadmill?

Seconded.

Although if you're the competitive pvp type, it's hard to avoid eventually falling into that mindset.. Otherwise, you'll lag against people who play like that.

I play pretty efficiently IMO. But I do enjoy all the aspects of the game. However, I wanna hit the instances as well as spec for the build I really want and having decent gear would be the best way to do it. 😛

Well the PvP is a level field in GW2, so there's no advantage to be gained there.

You don't need to grind for good gear, that's the whole point. Gear grind is for cosmetics and nothing else. I have my character outfitted solely through stuff picked up from karma vendors, with the exception of one piece I got as a drop that I loved the look of and and happened to have the stats I favor (power, precision, and condition damage).

Btw, what's everyone's favorite weapon combos? I mostly use staff, greatsword, and dual swords as a mesmer. Staff and greatswords are just amazing when in a group (and I actually love playing support in this game), and meleeing with dual swords is both hilarious as I'm a spellcaster, and highly effective as it does tons of damage.

Also illusions actually work properly now which is awesome.

Oh, as a tip, don't forget to right click and "deposit collectible" all crafting mats you have. This deposits the mats in a sort of "free container" that allows you to keep the mats there w/o wasting bank/bag space.

Took me til like lvl 50 to figure this out and it wasted tons of time making me lug around all the inv items and crafting mats I had.

Also: tip. If you run into extra gold (such as when you sell tons of copper ore/jute scrap), best to convert a few of those to gems so that you might be able to nab some extra bank space. Extra bank space = godsend.

Don't worry, you're playing the game right.

Gear matters, insasumch as you want to play around with funky abilities you normally wouldn't get via traits. Such as when you use a combination of runes/sigils that create specific effects (such as life leech or additional damage). It's a fun mechanic especially if you combine it with traits/skills.

As for builds, currently using a warrior. Doing Sword/Axe but I'm gonna be switching to a mace/shield tank warrior in case I do some instancing (tho not right now). I use a rifle as an off weapon. Might switch to a full rifle warr just to see what shooting things at range would be like. Circle strafing mobs all day can get old.

As a better tip, left click the cog at the top right and select 'Deposit All Collectibles'

Once again you missed my point. Gear matters but you do not need to grind for it unless there's a specific LOOK you want. Getting the stats you want isn't terribly difficult, and it particularly becomes a non-issue if you have a good guild 😛

I find that I kite around when I'm at range than in melee. I can usually take down veterans (and the two henchmen that usually accompany them) solo with few problems.

I try not to do that, I like keeping gems that I pick up around in case I get an armor upgrade. 😛

Craft an invisible bag and move any gems there - not only do things in there not show up at a merchant but they don't get deposited either.

Hell, I'll send you one if you don't have one, I think I can make 12 slot ones now 😛

Or a safe box if you are more of a metalworker.

Those things sell on the TP pretty well.

Yes they do.

I have two invisible bags equipped because I cart around lots of weapons and armor. I also love the craftsman bags.
