Tidus Vs. Vaan

Started by GrieverSquall15 pages

The Sphere Grid is a mechanic, of course Tidus can learn Spells such as Haste or Slow (If I'm not mistaken). What I meant, is where in the story-line is mentioned he's capable of performing Magical Spells? Where it suggest he can? Is just a question because I don't remember much about Final Fantasy X... You know, people like Lulu is obviously that can use Magic, also Yuna or Kimahri, but what about Tidus, Auron, Wakka and Rikku?

Kimahri just ate cocunuts in X! 😠 wut's your pwoblem?!

Well nah, he fought off two Ronso's that were pretty much...stronger than him?! WTF>?!

Ya Kimahri is awesome.

And whether the story says so or not, we have no choice but to take that scene as it is. Whether Vaan punched him, stabbed him or kicked him, no way a human could make him fly like that. Probably just bad writing on Square's part. Or maybe they forgot that Ivalice people are supposed to human. Either way, a human Vaan's size shouldn't be able to do that

Yes, but I don't think Square is really worried about sticking to being realistic. There are certain properties you have to take into account in a fantasy game, like FFXII. Scenes like that are not uncommon, even if the character is suppose to be a normal human.

Again, we can look at Tidus, who breaths underwater, and swims faster than most fish. But Wakka, Rikku, and every member of the blitzball team can do that too. Tidus isn't super human, but in fantasy games, they can take liberties with "normal".

I don't think they directly mention it in the story line.

No, Blitzball players hold their breath for a very prolonged time.

Really? When did it say that? You even see Tidus breath out underwater at parts, if I'm not mistaken.

No, Tidus and none of those Blitzball players can breath underwater. Each Blitzball match last minutes. Yuna in Final Fantasy X-2, plays Blitzbal and as far as I know she can hold her breath for five minutes.

Ya. I recall Wakka in a X cutscene gasping for air during the match lol. His team lost also. F*cking Asian Jamaicans.

Asian Jamaicans? Lol.

Wait, Tidus goes deep sea diving with Rikku at the beginning. That lasted WELL past five minutes. They went to practically the bottom of the ocean.

Even so, my point still stands. No normal person can hold their breath to the bottom of the ocean and comb through debris while fighting giant octopi. Nor can they dolphin jump out of water, shoot up into the air, and backflip kick a ball. Trust me, Square isn't worried about keeping things "normal".

But they don't breath underwater.

I guess not. Still, they perform super human feats without being super human.

^ I know. Wakka is just a foo who couldn't hold it in long enough because he's a blitzball-using-phail in a fight.

Yeah, a lot of people didn't like Wakka. I don't know why, he was one of my strongest fighters for a while next to Auron.....

Regardless of the fact that he uses a ball. Though some of his later weapons look like they would hurt pretty bad....

Wel I think this thread is still a stalemate. After the whole leviathan event, characters in XII aren't even shown with weapons for the most part: with the exception of dialogue during a fight. Vaan could be a swordsman tha could give Auron a run for his money or a weak mage that Yuna would laugh at...we don't know.

Here something to laugh at. Another example of Vaan sucking is that Cosmos from Dissidia pick a character from XI over him; I doubt even some of the hardcore fans know who the hell Shanttoto is.

I personally like Wakka, he's not one of my favorite characters though, but I think his style of fighting is unique... Seriously, we don't see people fighting with a ball in Final Fantasy. When I first saw him I thought he was about to use his fists to fight.

The rest of his weapons (Balls) like this one:

Would hit pretty damn hard, but is purely Gameplay.

Um Shantotto wasn't picked over Vaan. Gabranth got picked over Vaan. Shantotto inclusion had nothing to do with Vaan. She got picked cause tarutaru are the most popular race in FFXI and she is the most iconic. Vaan almost got in along with Balthier. they couldn't pick between the two and decided that Balthier shouldn't be in because he just got a cameo in FFT:War of the lions and Vaan didn't get it because they wanted to avoid main hero figures since its only a secret spot so they went with some one else. Gabranth

Weird. Ashe is more main character than Vaan yet she wasn't even considered. You can look this up if you don't believe me. I guess that means if a sequel were to come, we'd either have Balthier, or Vaan

Also I don't think I got anything more to add to this debate. Not much else to say about either chacter except for personal preferences(though I actually like Tidus more than Vaan)

Me too, I like Tidus more than Vaan, but I think Vaan would definitely win. Besides you brought many points in Vaan's favor, more than anyone for Tidus. Besides Revenant Wings Vaan would win and there I don't have any doubts about it.

One thing that makes RW Vaan really awesome he is the only hero I know in the series who canonically owns his strongest weapon(Anastasia when you power it up). He becomes a pretty good character in RW and is pretty awesome in TA2.

But I think I will always love Tidus more. Aside from his awful design, he was just an all around better person. And the brotherhood sword is the coolest sword in the series imo. I actually bought FFX just because I saw a pic of him holding the sword

But even though I personally like to think each FF hero is on the same level of fighting each with their own ups and downs, I don't actually have much to prove that is true. So looking at everything, I just go with Vaan in a fight despite Tidus being a better character

Neither though are my favorite heroes though

I don't see what Vaan has at all. He trains against desert monsters with rats, and he punched a guy in a scene. That's really all there is.

he didn't punch him, he stabbed him. Square just didn't want to show blood I guess
