True. But I mean more towards his Force displays. He definitely doesn't need (and shouldn't) to be a god, but come on, he has come across as weak-sauce way too often.

Yoda was revered as one of the most powerful Jedi, however not god-like. His portrayal is one where his Force performances are awesome to read...every time. They could do the same for Luke, without making him invulnerable.

Like with Lomi Plo, do show him succumbing to the doubt, but have him use his mastery to dissipate her cloak rather than having to 'eliminate his own doubt.'

Or with Caedus? Luke should have grown a pair and gone after him. Would have made for a far more awesome battle than Jaina v. Caedus (though that wasn't bad).

I think the EU would have a much better time of it if everyone abandoned the idea that Luke's potential = Anakin's potential; just say he has the capability to become a pretty powerful Jedi and then you can have him be uber l33t but reasonably vulnerable enough to incite drama.

For me, it's not the Force potential debate about Luke v Anakin that irks me with the EU, but that the authors sometimes go to such great lengths to show Luke's vulnerability that Luke can sometimes appear as strong as a blackhole (as in the hyperbole written in Dark Swarm when he was up against UnuThul and the Hive mind), or as weak as a low-potential Padawan (don't have a specific example, but you get the idea).

Like you said in the past Gideon, his Force powers are overly inconsistent. Vulnerability is one thing, but downright weak-sauce? But that's just my opinion.

Example: in Dark Rendezvous, Dooku is able to get a glancing blow off Yoda's shoulder because Dooku distracted him with the hostage. That shows vulnerability, but not downright pussy-liver, and that was dramatic for me, because it showed that Yoda is definitely not perfect or all-powerful. I haven't read the passage in a while, but I recall that Dooku did get a glancing strike in.
