The guy's name is apparently Ghirihim. Possible spoilers in video:

Looks to be a pretty good villain since I want to kill him already. He also freaks me out massively.

God, I hate that guy. Don't even know why. He seems like he'd be sticky if you touched him and probably smells like that of a cat's bed.

Dude must be pretty strong to stop Link's sword with his fingers. Link gets hyped to hell around here but his strength is undeniable, and will probably be consistent in this game.
Looks early game, Link generally starts out weaker, even physically. TP went out of its' way to tell us so, too. mmm Still, I am interested. Gonna get this game. 😄 Obv.

Such delicious Foe-yay. Serious evil Rimmer vibes.

Well if he is who I think he is, he has the triforce so he must be at least that powerful. Also, is that initial sword Link is using the Piccori Blade?

Who do you think he is?

Should of brought back Vaati.

The guy kind of looks like Vaati combined with Zant.

If he's an interloper, that would be one of these guys, who got sealed in the Twilight Realm and eventually became the Twili.

So "Demon Lord Ghirihim" is probably our first look at an interloper.

With that tounge? The only thing he looks like he wants to interlope into is Link...

Just comparisons based on what we know of this game's plot and how it relates to back story form previous games (especially Twilight Princess).

Skyward Sword-The Hylians live in a land above the clouds whose capital city is called Skyloft. Among them are a boy named Link and a girl named Zelda who is "holy" in some way. She is almost kidnapped by a tornado controlled by a Demon Lord called Ghirahim who seems to use magic that looks a lot like the Twili and who seems to rule over the land below which is covered in darkness which Link must liberate with what will eventually become the Master Sword.

A Link To The Past-The discovery of the Triforce resulted in civil war.
Ocarina of Time-The Ancient sages gave the Master Sword power to repel evil and designed an elaborate system to protect the Triforce. Hyrule has a dark and bloody history.
The Minish Cap-At some point in the past, the world was covered in darkness until the hero of men beat it back with the Picori Blade and the light force which came from the heavens. Zelda inherited the light force.
Twilight Princess-Towards the end of the civil war, dark interlopers seized the triforce using the fused shadow but were defeated with the help of the light spirits. They were tried by the ancient sages at the arbiters grounds and either banished to the twilight realm or executed with the sword of light. Also, in the past, a bird race called the oocca lived in cities in the sky and created the hylians.

Hmmm, timeline. Yes, it'd be great if Skyward Sword tied all of this together, but I'm skeptical given how Legend of Zelda usually seems to be about things like this. It's not going to be obvious, that's for sure.

However, now that you mention it, Ghirihim's powers are extremely reminiscent of twilight based effects, what with the particles and stuff. He also mentions a servant of the goddesses, so Light Spirit or something. I doubt Link is wielding the Picori Blade however, if only because the story is focused on the origin of the Master Sword from the Skyward Sword. Unless the Skyward Sword is split or something, one part becoming the Picori Blade (later Four Sword) and the other becoming the Master Sword.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong since I'm not too good at timeline stuff, but Minish Cap is the earliest in the timeline, followed by Ocarina of Time, then Twilight Princess and then Link to the Past? Of those named, at least. Skyward Sword is now going to be the earliest, then, with the origin of Hyrule and the Master Sword, possibly the Picori Blade and Light Force.

Hey now, speculation on Zelda timeline ****ery? Not without me!

Link's sword in the early game doesn't look like the Four Sword, and let's not forget that the Four Sword's power is explicitly separating its wielder into four. So I doubt it's that.

Also, Skyward Sword isn't necessarily the origin of Hyrule. The only stated origin is that of the Master Sword. All we know is that in SS Hyrule is being overrun by monsters.

As I see it, the game could take place either before The Minish Cap (I don't see this happening, since it would cut out use of the Triforce as a plot element) or between the Four Sword Saga and OoT.

Here are two decent and somewhat differing Zelda Timeline videos that I thought were good:

YouTube video

YouTube video

If you are a big Zelda fan, you will watch all 20 minutes of the second vid. Very good and I ALMOST cannot argue with the points they bring up.

As much as I'd love to post my exhaustively researched Zelda timeline here, I do need to say this is getting a little bit away from the topic of the thread.

I really like Zelda's design so far. I'm sure she'll end up in her traditional "princess" outfit, but this is good for the early game.

I am also in love with that design for Zelda. It's very Zelda-ish, but also very reminiscent of Malon <3

I think it fits perfectly with this thread. Figuring out the timeline of SS can only be done once you establish the timeline/s of the previous games.

I'd love to see your timeline and how it ties into SS. You've already made mention of the Master Sword and how that tied in with the previous Zeldas...but only vaguely.

This game reminds me of Avatar.

Hint...there's a link in his first sentence there.

It has, however, been discussed to death elsewhere on here, though, and as such is fairly off-topic for this thread.

Thanks! 😄

All text appears "white" on my screen. I'm using the Star Wars theme so I don't see links unless I hover over the text or use the "quote" instead of quick quote button.

The Piccori Blade doesn't split it's user into Four. It only started doing that after it was reassembled into the Four Sword and then cursed. That early sword in the video does look a lot like the Piccori blade prior to it being broken. Ideally this game would have both swords.

What would tie this in even better is if there were a retcon in the ending showing Zelda receiving the light force and her having a jealous brother...(Zelda II?)

I'm not even going to go into my timeline theory since I just go by what I see in the games rather than what creators say and all I see is a very linear single timeline with a clear beginning and ending.

It's also one of those discussions that immediately dissolves into chair throwing, personal insults, and Hitler comparisons.

Maybe leave it to PM's and a promise not to degenerate into calling people with unorthodox views "dick lickers"?

Taking it to PM.
