STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION - Desecration

"That is entirely different," Galder says. "The Force isn't a ghost."

"Call it what you want, but it all seems the same to me..." Taiza replies. "Didn't help your red-haired friend much either, did it."

"I'd like to think that I'm more capable than she is," Galder says. "She may be slightly more attuned to the Force and nearly my equal with a lightsaber, but for all her anger she's still scared of the Galaxy. I learned long ago how it is."

"And I'm sure I've seen more to this galaxy than either of you two kids put together," Taiza says, slightly condescending in her tone. "Still haven't ever seen anything like this, though."

"I have," Galder says.

"Oh yeah? So, what, do you go doing this sort of thing often?"

Rura just stays silent, scanning everything with his macrobinoculars. This mountain range is larger than you thought, but you can still have that vague sense of "this direction".

"Often enough," Galder says. "My Master had a propencity for Sith secrets."

"Huh. Well, I guess some people like strange thing..." she replies.

You sense danger.

Galder looks around.

You don't see anything...

"Move," Rura suddenly says, pointing up the rockface. Looks like an avalanche or rockslide starting.

"We can't navigate that fast through here," Taiza responds.

"Do it if you don't want to get crushed," Rura snaps back.

"I can't repel them," Galder says. "Drive!"

Can Galder and Rura try shooting rocks?

Rura shakes his head as soon as you suggest it - doing so could possibly set off a smaller rockslide. At least you can tell that it will all be behind you. You'll have to find a different route back, of course, but better that than getting trapped here now.

This is going to come down to a number of pilot rolls to see if you can successfully navigate through fast enough to not crash and not get crushed.

Any way Galder can help Taiza?

Observation rolls, as well as sense ones, may prove helpful for this.

Galder will have the eyes of an eagle!

So here we go! Basically the idea is to get a certain number of successes on pilot rolls as quickly as possible. The fewer rolls it takes, the better you get through it.

Galder must have the eyes of a blinded eagle, because he gets no luck on that Observation roll, with a grand one success. However, he gets a pretty clear sense from the Force as to where to go, which will help Taiza. This starts her out with five successes out of the twenty required to successfully escape the rockslide.

The dice roll exactly average rolls, with Taiza managing to get three successes each time. Five rolls it takes, then; not great, but also not bad. There are a few close scrapes, and several times where the speeder runs a bit too close to a cliff edge (it will need a new paint job), and a few of the smaller rocks manage to bounce across the top of the speeder itself. But no one takes any injuries, and with Galder managing to sense the correct way away from there, you manage to make it through more or less unscathed, the rumbling of settling rocks safely behind you. The speeder is a bit beat up, though, and Taiza is wary about pushing it too much anymore.

Of course, this will make getting back to the ship more difficult, but there's no point in worrying about that at the moment.

"That was close," Galder says. "We should pull over and see if we can get some life back into the speeder after that experience."

Taiza brings the speeder to a halt in a sort of hidden cavern, so that if anyone goes past they shouldn't be able to see where you are.

"I mean, it'll still run fine, but I wouldn't try to go at top speed..." she says with a shrug.

"Just wanna be sure," Galder says. "Don't want it crapping out on us in the middle of the Wastelands. Happens to people on Tatooine when their speedes overheat; you either die of exposure or the Sand People get you."

Galder has a Fix-It of 1, Int. of 4.

"Go for it, then," Taiza comments.

Thanks to good rolls, you quickly figure out that it must be rock dust clogging up stuff, and are able to clear it out without any problems. Taiza powers the speeder back up again when you're done and confirms that it feels like it's running smoothly like it had been before.
