It's beaten TDK's record for reaching $400 million domestically by four days.
And for the curious (and anal), here's a breakdown of how each Avenger's screen time was juggled.

^ Point is Disney has a few sure things with their Marvel Superheroes that will last a long time to come.
I never said otherwise. Just pointing out that WB doesn't necessarily have to create their own studio dedicated to super-heroes (Although, i want them to). WB makes buckets of money doing what their doing. Look at Hunger Games for example. Nobody thought it would do as well as it would. So, super heroes isn't the only money maker.

TDKR projected OW is 185M and we're still 2 months away. Avengers was about 136M from it's release around the same time. With TV spots in the NBA finals and new posters, it's looking like it could be close. Very close.
i won't be at all surprised if TDKR does open with $185 million plus

I have been amazed but not surprised at all by The Avengers' success. Though i am a Marvel fan, i wish that they would do a batman movie, yeah keep the realism but throw in something like killer croc or even soloman grundy like they did in arkham city. I also think it would be bananas if Samuel "Nick Fury" Jackson showed up in the end of The Amazing spiderman and say something like "...we've been watching you Mr. Parker. How do you feel about playing for a team?"

A slew of theaters have been sold out, because the tickets are already being sold. I got this from another board and it's pretty incredible, if true.
Today I witnessed something I've personally never seen before. Expecting online problems, I went in person to the theater today to get tickets. I had a day off from work so I was able to use the opportunity. Upon arriving minutes before the theater opened at noon EST, there was a line up outside waiting at the doors, and most of them were in the line for Rises tickets. I was simply shocked to see a lineup in the morning at a theater, on a weekday, for presale tickets for a movie that's still six weeks away. Some people in the line were there just to see other movies, and when the doors opened the theater employees asked if everyone in the line was there to buy Batman tickets. The people there just for other films were surprised tickets were already available, and many of them spontaneously decided to buy presale tickets for Rises right there and then, as they were afraid they would sell out quickly.
I was very lucky and within minutes after the doors opened, I got tickets for the midnight IMAX show in my area, as well as IMAX tickets for a showing a few days later. I was very lucky, being able to get good seats for both shows, and lucky enough that this IMAX theater has reserved seating. Within only minutes of tickets being on sale, I saw the theater seating map for the midnight show had a bunch of sold seats, and even the tickets I got for the other day, a Monday night, had already some sold seats.
I checked a few hours ago online the situation in my area. Officially two IMAX midnight shows in my area are sold out (one real IMAX and one LieMAX). A third midnight showing, also a Liemax screen was close to selling out and probably is sold out by now. Also, many IMAX showings during the weekend and even after the weekend were 50-75% full. Already a few regular theaters in my area have multiple midnight shows listed already, which means some of their midnight shows are close to sold out, requiring the need for more midnight screens.
What I witnessed in person at the theater, the lineup, the spontaneous hype that occured when average people who had no idea about the tickets decided to buy some on the spot, combined with all the sellouts and near-sellouts already in my area so far ... all of this, and we're still 6 weeks away, and the walk-up audience is going to be big for the film.
Truly incredible. The dream is real. Records will be broken.
And this is what Joss Whedon had to say. 😉
"Whatever The Dark Knight Rises does on its first weekend, the only stat that matters to me is the ticket I'm definitely buying. Nolan and Raimi invented the true superhero flick, yo."

And when did the Avengers allow you to pre order tickets as well.
Or when is the average you can buy tickets before hand for movies.
