so far, some websites have tdkr at 190M. that will probably surpass avengers in ticket numbers. and we are still 4 weeks away. my theater is adding more showtimes to meet the demand. 330 and 6u in the morning. and some of those are sold out.

that figure really isn't a surprise.. of course im glad i bought my tickets already

me too. 4 tickets for noon time, before work.

Avengers becomes 3rd film to hit $600 million!

^ Lol and it's not even opened in Japan.

I think Dark Knight Rises vs Amazing Spiderman might be a closer competition now than Avengers vs Dark Knight Rises.

I think TDKR has 500 in the bag. At some theaters, most of the showtimes are sold out until mid August. 😱 And we're not even in July yet.

😕

Going to call bullshit on that. There are still seats available for the midnight premiere in my theater... good seats. Hell, even the Scotiabank Theater Downtown Toronto has decent UltraAVX seats available for the premiere.

I said SOME theaters. You can find the info online. My theater are already sold out and adding more showtimes to meet the demand.

LOL what are they? 2 seat theaters? I live in a city and I see plenty of tickets available still

Seriously.

Well, people are already acting like TDKR is the second coming of Jesus, much like they did for TDK, so I wouldn't be surprised if some theaters are selling out.

Select theaters were ALREADY available in January. Chicago, NY, I think and they sold out in midnight showings.

People are selling tickets on craigslist for as much as 50-100 bucks. 😱

From the forums of Boxoffice.com

Arclight Hollywood's dome midnight show is sold out. They had seven total midnight shows, now they've added 3 more, including another Dome show at 3:45 (which is just starting to fill up). The other midnight shows (including the other Arclight theaters) are all at significant capacity 70-95% full).

From the same website. This is what I meant earlier.

Yes i am talking about the Dark knight rises, you misunderstood what i meant.

The screenings which there are 3-4 daily are mostly half full for each screening till the end of its run. And for the first 3-4 weeks there are more then half full.

For example i have tickets for the 3 of August and the 5th of August

3rd of August A Friday at 5:50pm screening its 80% full

5th of august a Sunday at 5:50pm screening its 90-95% full

Supposedly, Regal has said more than 100 shows have been sold out and that they are going to screen TDKR 24/7 for the 3 day weekend. Oh, and this...

Will be interesting to see what finally happens.

TDK adjusted for OW was 190M from what i read. not far off and sometimes trology do better. especially promising ones. i still have my doubts that it will break avengers record, but it is possible.

Honestly I think there is little chance of Dark Knight topping Avengers, for some reason Batman just doesn't have the legs at the foreign box office that he does in America. With the strength of the foreign box office, I wouldn't be surprised when every thing is said and done if Amazing Spider-man actually makes more world wide than TDKR does.

The foreign market eats up action and cgi effect. Spiderman is going to do better because most audiences don't want to sit through 2 hours of subtitle or bad voice overs on a movie with deep meanings and complex characters. What foreign kid is going to understand what the story is about that he would recommend it to his friends? Spiderman is making more money in these markets because of the cinematography and action that would at least keep audiences interested, enough so that they would recommend it to others.

Batman will be a better story than Spiderman no doubt, but it's not coming close to Spiderman's foreign numbers at all. Neither Bane nor Catwoman is an appeal compared to the Lizard. Visually, Spiderman will captivate and draw in more international audiences than Batman.

Ehh, I wouldn't say that. TDK didn't even open in CHINA. Not so with TDKR and in TDKR is pretty big in certain countries. I know someone in India who is going to travel 2-3 hours just to see the movie. Time will tell.

I don't know about that, Inception for example did more than double it's domestic numbers at the foreign box office and that is much more cerebral and complicated than TDK. And lets be honest TDK is only marginally more "high brow" than every other superhero affair, the idea that some foreign person will be completely lost in the non existent complexities of the movie and say "WTF was that movie about?" is laughably absurd. TDK isn't Mulland Drive or 2001, it's not so deep or layered with subtext and shouldn't go over the head of anyone of marginal intelligence regardless of their culture It's a pretty basic and universal story, with archetypal character types that everyone is familiar with, but foriegn markets don't just have the same love of Batman for some reason.
