I felt the film was quite strong and very enjoyable. Cavill own his role as Superman and Shannon makes Zod one of the most fully developed villains in any superhero film. The rest of the cast all give admirable performances.
As for the flaws, well there is quite a few of them. The biggest problem is the first portion of the film is rushed and disjointed. It's almost as if the film wants to get Kal-El into the suit as fast as possible. It's understandable, but it causes us to never really understand why he became Superman. There isn't a moment where he really decides to be a hero. As for it being disjointed, the film employs flashbacks but they are placed awkwardly into the film. In fact, at times it feels we are watching two movies: one that is rather emotional while the other is an over the top action flick.
Furthermore, the Lois/Clark romance seems rather forced. In that sense it reminded me of the Thor romance. And the action, while great, is almost video-game esque. Thee is a sense that Superman is going from boss fight to boss fight. Finally, the film has an irritating habit of telling rather than showing.
Yet, once the action starts, I found the flaws to fall by the wayside. It's great and breathtaking to watch and was undoubtedly the most enjoyable film of the year so far. The film stands on the strength and power of Superman's fist and for that it succeeds.
8.5/10
Raking in $21M in late night showings. "It’s also the all-time highest superhero late show record, surpassing The Avengers’ remarkable $18.7M and The Dark Knight‘s $18.5M."
Don't understand all the negativity with the critics. I swear they just hate on Snyder. 300 was really good and Watchmen is a masterpiece to me. This was somewhere in the middle of the two quality-wise.
Everybody griped that Superman never punched anyone in the last film. Result: Snyder delivers action in spades in a way its never been done before. *kanyeshrug*
Lack of humor? Well, not every film must be like Iron Man 3 and shove forced jokes and attempts at laughter down our throats. At some point, a movie has to decide whether it wants to maintain its credibility. This film knows what it wants to do. It's a reboot that isn't trying to do the same old "origin" story that we've grown accustomed to from Batman Begins and Iron Man.
Everyone knows the story of Superman. So what they did was try to show Krypton and expand on his alien mythos. New. Original. Well done. Crowe excelled in his role.
The Lois Lane thing was a little underdeveloped but based on the ending there is clearly room for a sequel/s to expand upon their relationship.
Snyder(and company) tried to stay away from the things that are familiar when it comes to the character and most notoriously the last film.
Spoiler:
No Luthor(nice easter egg though), no kryptonite, etc.
TDK and TDKR were dramas first, superhero second. Man of Steel IS a superhero film, albeit with minor flaws(what film seriously doesn't).
Clap for this man Snyder for delivering us another cinematic superhero delight. Nolan, Zimmer, etc. all get a round of applause too. Feels good to be a comic-book fan.
Originally posted by NotAllThatEvilWhile I did prefer the smallville fight, Superman vs Zod 1v1 was effin' amazing. Best superhero fight ever and a shining example of what I always wanted/thought superhero final battles should be like. Avengers and MoS's action is the best. Not underwhelming like Thor vs Loki in Thor's movie.
I don't think the last fight needs to be in the movie. The first fight where he takes the chick and the big guy is great, but this one is just.... confusing.

I just came from seeing MoS and despite the flaws, I though this was a damn good moive. I honestly think critics caught a case of "Stick up the ass" for this summer's movie season.
Though I didn't like how some of the flashback were placed in the movie I do like the appoach as it spares the audience from having to sit through 1 hour of exposition and backstory. I also thing that Snyder rushed Supes into the suit but that's a relatively minor issue.
The Lois romance was strange and felt forced but then again another detail I didn't much care for.
The action was well done and had me pumped for most of the film, though some of the scenes like
Spoiler:were a tad too silly for me.
the World Machine's defense mechanism
And before I forget I just want to say
Spoiler:
Superman Wins "FATALITY" 😄

What I didn't like was that superman had a big struggle with... I don't know how to do spoiler tags on my phone... but at least 30 people died through collateral damage. Also, how many times can they show someone getting punched through a building, I mean really?

I gave it 7.5/10. It's not a spoiler laden review. Mind you there's not that much to spoil. It has some serious problems in my opinion. Mostly around characterization.

Ah, good, a 7.5 lets me know I'm not walking into a giant wall of peanut laden shit.
I'll still read it after, since it's only a few hours now. Thanks though.
