I loved TFA. I've seen it twice now and enjoyed it way more the second time through. Having said that, it is almost a blatant copy of ANH.
Right at the very beginning the stormtroopers touch down and destroy the village. Kylo Ren walks out, his first appearance, looking intimidating. He questions the old man about where the map is, old man tells him nothing, Kylo kills him. Poe had put the map into BB8.
As I watched this, I was like wow, this feels exactly like the stormtroopers boarding Leia's ship, killing the Rebels, then Vader walks in, questions Antilles who tells him nothing, he chokes him and kills him. Leia places the Death Star plans into R2-D2.
All throughout the movie I was thinking "Wow, this feels so much like ANH." Right down to the super weapon getting destroyed at the end. There are SO many similarities.
TFA is a great movie, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it's silly to try and deny the fact that it is SO similar to ANH, though.
Who was denying it?
The biggest debate is whether you find that a problem or not. I don't, simply because it is entertaining. So I don't mind it too much.
I would mind if VIII is another nostalgia fest. They better take it to totally new territory next time. They sure have the actors/characters to do that.
Sorry, it was more directed at people trying to point out the "differences between them" (well no shit, they aren't the exact same movie), saying TPM was a copy of ANH and ANH was a copy of Hidden Fortress. None of them were as blatant as TFA was with ANH.
Even just little things like Rey climbing down the wall to avoid the stormtrooper patrol walking past on the catwalk above reminded me so much of Old Ben hiding behind the control panels from the stormtroopers on the catwalk. Maybe that's a stretch but when I watched it, it just felt the EXACT same.
But yeah, I didn't have a problem with it. I just love Star Wars. I realize I should have posted this in the TFA vs ANH thread, too.

It’s certainly meant to be a nod to that scene. You even have two Stormtroopers talking about new equipment. But that’s more of a self-referential scene like the parsec joke then a blatant rip-off IMO.
Plus, despite what people keep saying, I feel the plot between the two films is rather different. Yes, Starkiller Base is very similar to the Death Star but it’s not the focus. The focus of Act 3 (and Act 2) are completely different then ANH.

I think you should quote him more truthfully and stop the Lucas hate flowing through you. And read the conversation we're having more thoroughly. Then you might realise how stupid you're being.
I just thought of a great plot for Rogue One:
Rey becomes romantically involved with Poe Dameron. Seeing this, Finn becomes overwhelmed with jealousy and decides to join Snoke's Knights of Ren. Incidentally, Poe becomes a Jedi under the tutelage of Luke. The final battle begins with Finn Ren vs Poe Dameron, Rey Skywalker vs Kylo Ren (Rey loses her right hand), and Snoke (revealed to be as short as Yoda) vs Luke. Kylo, realizing the err of his ways after chopping of his cousin's hand, sees Luke stabbed by Snoke. Finn switches sides as well, and the Three Remaining Musketeers (Rey is incapacitated at this point) finishes the gravely-injured Snoke. In the end,
Spoiler:, with Luke's Force Ghost smiling from a distance.
Finn marries Poe Dameron and Rey marries Kylo
EP9 is about their children fighting Darth Jar Jar, the true villain of SW.

Were you assuming that the people who disliked the similarities would also think Abrams opinions on the matter are important? He obviously doesn't have an issue with his own film lol. I've seen far more original material called a rip-off than this movie.
