Were you assuming that the people who disliked the similarities would also think Abrams opinions on the matter are important? He obviously doesn't have an issue with his own film lol. I've seen far more original material called a rip-off than this movie.

well Abrams is the one laughing all the way to the bank

you do yet relalize that there is basically NO ORIGINALITY IN HOLLYWOOD THESE DAYS ??

And I'm happy for him making money.

Indeed, Hollywood is not original. I recall people disliking that but apparently unoriginality is fine in Star Wars.

A great many fans seem to enjoy it. The faults of this film will become apparent with time, especially if Episodes VIII and IX and super creative/original. If they lean so heavily as this one then....well enjoy it while you can I guess.

Abrams addressed the criticism that this copied too much from the OT:

"I respect every reaction. I completely see that is a problem for some people.

It was obviously a wildly intentional thing that we go backwards in some ways to go forwards in the important ways."

Notice how he's not denying it and saying "What no, this story was completely different.." Lol

It was a good IMO not a great one. It opinions vary. I also doubt this film will traumatize anyone so I'd say it's safe to say you're being dramatic.

Ps. Well this film did apparently ruin Darth Thor's life but besides him.

I thought it was good the only thing that didn't fit was some of the new characters. Example the pilot was not in the movie enough, there was a range of characters that it was almost to wide. Fin.. fin did not have the leading man status but he was a good actor. Princess laya forgot how to act.. she came off as to serious and robot like. R2 just woke up all of sudden? What was that about. The evil woman who reported the location of the heros looked like a character from Men In Black.

R2 was in a coma and BB-8 woke him up from it.

A buddy and I were talking last night and he said it wasnt great but enjoyable enough. I said it was the worst Star Wars movie yet. After talking about it, he cussed me and admitted that he couldnt defend it. We came to the conclusion that most of the people that liked the movie do so only because it was indeed a Star Wars movie, not because it was any good. In truth it was awful and i'm pissed that I went to the theater to see it. Rant over.

BB-8 had nothing to do with it. That was Rey's arrival.

Not according to the director.

That makes absolutely no semse in the context of the film itself.

Nope! I would have assumed the Rey thing as well.

Despite not being in absolute love with the film I did have a rather cool movie screening experience when I saw TFA. Perhaps seeing it opening night had something to do with it.

Ah...so you and your friend speak for "most of the people"? Quit talking out of your ass.

The movie was highly enjoyable on all points. Most fans rank it in their top 3 of Star Wars films. If we go by what you're saying, 5 out of 7 movies were just liked because they have the Star Wars branding. Complete bull.

There was so much wrong with the movie I dont know where to start. It was a lazy storyline with mostly poor acting and a terrible villain. Whats to like? Maybe if I was a teenager it would have been better.

Like I said, I think most people that liked the flick only does so due to their yearning and want for anything Star Wars. Other then that, I cant understand how anybody could actually enjoy it. It was that bad to me.

So you don't understand how opinions work?

I saw it without the vibe of an over excited audience...namely half a cinema of audience whom most seemed to have seen it already.
Without that sense of excitement in the cinema, I walked away enjoying the film but not overwhelmed or thinking it was beyond criticism.
