I can just post it here i guess. The thing that gives this "leak" relevance , is that there are 2 set pics that back up the leak.
***Spoiler***
Here is the full leak description:Spoiler:
In the scene Luke tells Rey that the Jedi Council became “arrogant” and that they were hiding a “secret,” which led to their demise. The old Jedi master takes Rey’s hand and shows her a glimpse into the past. They see two children playing near a tree on an alien planet. The boy noticed that he had greater strength and intuition when he was closer to this tree. The girl noticed that the tree also made her brother increasingly angry. One day an argument breaks out between the children, and the boy kills the girl. The boy touches the tree and is “transformed.” He kills his parents and leaves the planet. Meanwhile the girl is revealed to be alive, transformed by the tree as well, using her power to start the first Jedi Order. The girl explains how The Force can be used for both good and evil. She tells her followers that one day she would return as either a boy or a girl, and that they should train this child. Luke tells Rey that the Jedi Order had been searching for The One (reincarnation of the original founder of the Jedi) for a millennia. When they found Anakin Skywalker and thought that he would bring balance to The Force, the Jedi were “deceived” and the Clone Wars were the result. The scene also shows Rey’s parents, and Luke is not the father. Luke tells her how she was identified as strong with The Force, and how she was supposed to begin her training, but never reached her destination for an unknown reason. In the scene Luke gives Rey a choice, and she has till sunset to make it.***Spoiler Pics***
sounds like a very bad hater of Star Wars wrote this drivel.. oh well a year to find out though
Saw this film today.
It was okay I guess. Most of the criticisms about it are largely valid.
On whether or not Rey is a mary sue, though she is at least a borderline case, the more important question is: is she an interesting character? ... no, not really. A mysterious backstory (BOY I WONDER IF LUKE IS HER DAD) is not a substitute for an interesting personality.
Finn was the biggest disappointment. He was a considerably more interesting character than Rey, and had the potential to be really cool, but ultimately Disney played the film so safe his potential was wasted. I knew this would be the case early on, when after Finn showed enormous discomfort with gunning down civilians, he gunned down dozens of people he's broken bread with on a daily basis without any thought on it. Finn had the potential to be a very real and human character, but he ultimately fell into the archetype the film needed him to fill.
Kylo Ren was cool, his portrayal was pretty much the only risk the film took. The deliberate subversion of the Vader archetype that he was marketed as filling was pretty fresh, making him more than just a direct ANH analogue the film was obviously designed to be.
Ultimately though, the film is disappointing. This is a very competently put together film, but it takes few risks and does little new. It reeks of being made by focus groups.
6/10 I guess.
Just saw this and I agree with others who were disappointed. No, it wasn't utter garbage like most of Episode I & II, but as has been stated it just didn't push any boundaries where it could have.
Finn definitely wasn't used to his full potential as they really didn't develop him into anything but a device rather than a character; the reversal of Han and Chewie's fates was too easy to see coming; while the plot with Ren wasn't horrible, his overall ability in the dark side felt pretty pathetic, especially in terms of saber combat. That's of course not to mention a galaxy-killer weapon with a single weak point that the heroes of course manage to locate and destroy just in time via a precision x-wing/starship strike.
Making the film a bit longer, developing the plot more, and taking more chances would have been grand. Playing up the heroic moments and the joy of winning as well as bringing more of the darkness seen in RotS would have been a much better presentation than what we got. The film wasn't forgettable and at least we didn't have another Jar-Jar Binks, but I didn't feel wowed by it and had I never seen it I would have been just as well served by reading a paragraph-long synopsis, and likely more intrigued.
I kind of wish we could see Poe's story. He's the one who actually kills the Death Star (It kills planets, it's a Death Star), which was kind of a big deal in New Hope and Jedi, but was in the shadow of Finn, Rey, and Kylo Ren.
And lets be honest, Ren was only in the spotlight because Han Solo connection. Big picture wise, the planet killer is just a "bit" more of a threat then Darth Emo..

I do want Poe to be fleshed out more in Ep8, definitely one of the most interesting of the new characters.
