We have seen this same scenario more than once where someone trys to fight long range at first but then decides that close range is the only option left when trying to win a fight. Even tayuya a master of sound strategist decided that clise range was how she would defeat shikamaru. And she would have won had temari not saved him. So you saying katara would stay in the ocean forever even tho she knows her attacks from that range are useless belittles kataras intelligence.

Im not saying close range would be her first option im saying as a last resort she would most likey eventually she would come from the ocean and try to fight toph close range. If she wanted to WIN.

3. Long-range attacks aren't useless. And close-range would do less damage overall. And I think the reasons I listed are pretty legit and accurate.

4. No, close-range would be her first option. After a relatively long bending bout, Katara would realize she can't best Toph that way. She'd have to use her tactical ingenuity, and use the ocean to her advantage. At that point Toph couldn't do any damage to Katara.

Maybe Katara could do it very suddenly. Catch Toph off guard, Katara whipping strong, powerful water blasts, ice, etc. Maybe Katara could put ice on the ground to keep Toph from seeing. So she could stay close-range with her attacks. She could even go aerial with her attacks as well.

The scenario was the same tayuya's specialty is long distance yet in the end she decided close range was the right option to use in order to kill him

So close range is katara's first option even though you said toph would beat her close range

1. It matters more on the opponent.

2. Eventually, the reason why Katara would go to the ocean because, 1. It gives her a huge advantage, and 2. She knows she can't beat her close-range.

Yes she would go to the ocean at first but once she realizes that strategy isnt working she would have to adjust and come closer to try and look for an opening in tophs defenses Just like what any fighter would do.

Continuing this debate seems a little pointless to me. Wouldn't you agree?

So in conclusion katara is a coward who would rather start a new life living out in the ocean with a bunch of sea turtles than try to win a fight

You guys are funny. Toph has greater durability, strength, and firepower overall, but unless they're fighting in an open field or something, and not by some place with water, or while it's raining, or during a full moon, Katara will win this 9 times out of 10. She's too fast, and her water bending is more flexible than Toph's earth bending, to the point where she could just drown Toph in a sphere of water in the air if she wanted.

But the Ocean is next to them. Either way, she still has the water she carries, and the ocean next to them. As soon as the fight starts, Katara's making a water wall in front of her from the ocean, and is drowning Toph in a makeshift water prison.

Which it obviously is.

She can't bend without being in contact with the ground, and she can't see either. If Katara got her in the water, which she could easily, since it's so much more fluid and fast than Earth, she would have the win easily.

Not to mention that she can use it to protect herself, out-speed Toph's Earth, cover the entire battlefield, and go through the air so Toph can't see it. Overall, Katara has a MASSIVE advantage over Toph, considering she can fly, become invisible to Toph, out-speed and maneuver her, take away her bending, and attack more deadly than Toph can.

Why cant she bend without being on the ground i dont remember her saying that.

Bumi did it. That same bumi fought toph and it was a draw. This makes toph top in the world when it comes to earth bending. Toph has an even greater connection with earth bending than bumi does as shown when she created a whole new style of earth bending.

Im sure toph can pull a few rocks out of the ground while shes in the air.

Show me her throwing a rock with bending without touching the ground. Again, she can't see.

This isn't Highlander, douche-knuckle. She doesn't get Bumi's powers, any more than he gets hers.

So show me a feat, or gtfo.

Of course toph can do it just like katara can bend water without touching it.

Weve seen earthbenders who are far weaker than toph bend earth without touching earth. So your saying if toph were falling in mid air she cant bend the earth to save her life below her to save her life

The metal benders bend all the time without touchijng the ground abd toph foumded both the style and police force

Couldn't Toph just enclose her in the ground? End of fight. Or enclose her self in the ground while shooting walls of earth at Katara until she tired out.. I can't remember a specific time where Katara handled a significant amount of water to deal with the barrage of earth techs Toph could throw at her.
