Suicide Squad

Yeah, that Justice League teaser seemed very forced, particularly the humor and the disjointed and out of place use of White Stripes. Someone high up in WB seems to have taken the wrong lesson from the success of Guardians of the Galaxy and thinks that simply using pop music in teasers and trailers (and in the case of Suicide Squad, throughout the damn movie) and using humorous dialogue cuts is the key to success. I hope the film has a good score. Was on a Spielberg marathon this past weekend and it reminds me how much of a lost art movie scores have become in contemporary films.

Damn, I liked the JL trailer. It got a lot of praise.

In the circles in which I travel (which doesn't include a lot of Warner Bros employees) the Wonder Woman trailer was the one which receive the lion's share of, and near universal, praise. The Justice League trailer, on the otherhand, came across as forced to most, particularly the "What is he doing sitting in my second favorite chair?" line and scene between Batman and Flash and the "Arthur Curry. So I hear you talk to fish?" line by Affleck. Besides that everyone thought Momoa looked bad ass as Aqua-Drogo and Cyborg and Wonder Woman were just kinda there making cameos.

WW was the best, but JL was the second most talked about trailer at comic-con and had way more likes than dislikes on social media.

Trending isn't synonymous with good, and there's certainly enough dislikes and negative reviews of the trailer on social media to say that the reception was lukewarm at best. Particularly amongst people who don't positively spin this stuff professionally.

Yeah that Justice League trailer was pretty lame. DC might have a better one coming soon but where things stand I don't think they're doing themselves any favors with such lukewarm marketing.

As for SS, I wonder how this movie would've turned out had it been release w/o its last minute re shoots. I'd like to think it wouldn't be as much of a mess as what we got in theaters.

In this case, it was. Even the most pessimistic of fans (Who hated BVS) liked the trailer and it's humor. TBH, it wasn't even a trailer, it was just a showing of all the scenes they have done thus far. The first official theatrical trailer has yet to be shown.

Luke warm? They have barely shot anything up into that point, yet still got a lot of people talking. Mostly positive. We'll see how this luke warm marketing plays out when it does big numbers at the BO.

The trailer response has been lukewarm and there's been a myriad of trailer reviews done on Youtube and elsewhere with people saying the trailer left a lot to be desired and didn't instill a feeling of confidence in what the final product of the film will be. That said the current situation with Suicide Squad (and to an extent The Force Awakens) shows that a good marketing campaign will sell a bad film, but it doesn't change the fact that their bad films. Box office and quality aren't synonymous just like record sales and musicianship. "Whoomp There It Is" by Tag Team is a 4x platinum selling hip hop single but it's not as good of a song as "One Mic" by Nas.

Good. Cos trailer 3 for Man of Steel is one of the greatest trailers ever and look how that turned out.

Here we go again. To hell if its a good movie or not, just as long as it makes money. Of course its going to make money, you have DC's most popular heros in it. People will go see it regardless just to satisfy their curiosity, but that doesnt mean its a good movie (just like BvS). Its like the old adage, even bad pizza is still decent pizza, I think WB/DC have their fans conditioned at this point. They know the movies they are receiving and watching arent good, but they will still defend them through their box office numbers because they are fans. Eventually people will come to their senses. I know I did. WW is the last shot. If I dont like it, i'm done seeing those movies in the theater.

I was replying to his comment on marketing, not quality.

Anyway, good numbers for Monday. SS is looking to finish around 320 domestic, which is excellent. 700 is a lock.

You of all people should know better than to jump the gun.

I can't see 320 but I can see 700 worldwide.

When have I jumped the gun and got it wrong? These are projections from the BO site that takes into account drops.

Surprisingly this film might hit 300 by Labor day.

Golgo doesn't care about quality he just wants to obsess over the box office. He's a loser. Best part is he won't see a dime. He's that Dracula junkie begging to serve that Dracula just keeps rolling his eyes when he shows up.

Like I told you earlier, 310-320 is where it will land.

Where is Bruce to add a "HAHAHAHAHAHA" post?

mmm

well, in terms of money, whatever formula they used with SS, its working.
