We've established that the scene is true to character and to story, but now your brand new criticism of the scene simply can't be helped. It is a matter of personal taste if you don't like "your mother" jokes or the color yellow or the sound of church bells, there's not reasoning behind it.

"Brand new criticism"? I've said from the beginning it was terrible forced humor and stand by it.

And of course it's subjective.

Anyways, I don't understand the ridiculous amount of criticism this beautiful movie is receiving. I haven't yet seen anyone with a legitimate criticism who cares to explain their reasoning.

Not the script and tone issues?

As a concept, sure. But like it was portrayed in the movie? I just don't think it really works.

Well WTF Right?!? This flick makes me never want to watch anything Star Wars again.

Same. I've been f*cking traumatized by it.

Abrams x3, I'd have endured. Easily.

Rape at the hands of Johnson was too much.

If a joke is organic to the character and driven by the plot, then by any sensible definition it is not "forced".

By all means, you may call it an unfunny joke. But IMO, you may not call it a "forced" joke. The Forced is NOT with you lol

That's a criticism of Force Awakens, not Last Jedi. I think this movie does a nice job of knocking her down a peg,
Spoiler:
she's not special and her parents are nobodies

She received no true training from Luke in TLJ either.

No lightsaber training.
No force training.

I don't really care about the parent thing whatsoever.

She was already a proficient fighter on Jakku with her staff, so it's not too crazy that she can wield a lightsaber reasonably well. And as we see when she spars with Luke, she's easily bested and looks inexperienced.

And as far as her force control, nowhere in Last Jedi is she shown to have an unreasonable amount of control. We see in the throne room with Snoke how inexperienced she is with the force.

Okay, I guess it works for some people and not for others.

In the theater I went to, I remember it being one of the best laughs so I can't be alone in enjoying that scene. But I digress.

COUGH lifting semi truck size boulders with easy, even yoda a 800 year old jedi master took effort lifting a x wing from the swamp that as lighter then theses boulder and luke with training could not even budge it. Luke did nothing in this movie.

This movie crapped on leia, and luke like there was no towmorrow. Luke showed no skill with the force in this movie.

There were no lightsaber battles at all in this movie none that were good at least.

I don’t see the difference between the Poe/Hux exchange and the “you talk first/I talk first” at the beginning of TFA. Pretty much same sort of humour. Neither made me lol

it just goes to show that people can voice their opinions buy spending money and enjoying what thye have just seen...

unlike those who have serious issues and think RT, metecritic, imdb, audience scores actually mean something

😆 😆 😆

Love you, BruceSkywalker.

I want this movie to succeed super super super badly. Success means more movies means more chances to enjoy something that I love SOOOOO very much.

1. It is established that Rey has extreme raw power similar to Anakin if not more so, which does not require training. Some people just naturally have a deeper sensitivity to the force than others.

2. Yoda was 800 years old and already close to death

3. Luke showed no skill with the force because he had shut himself off to the force for years. Luke closing himself off from the force meant going into exile and was metaphorically his death, that's the reason he's so unlike himself in the movie. But at the end, when he reconnects with the force is when he becomes Luke again.

Spoiler:
And when he went to the island he went to die, so his death as a man connected to the force is growth and a beautiful character arc

4. There were better lightsaber battles in the PT than there were in the OT, but no one says the prequels were better than the originals do they? No, because Star Wars is about more than just lightsaber battles.

So I have to ask exactly what was the point of Admiral "magenta"(I can't be bothered to look up her name) not telling anyone what her plan was? I mean its one thing not to explain it to Poe but to have the bulk of the resistance in the dark just make her look incompetent especially since had she done so its likely that

Spoiler:
The entire casino subplot would have been avoided and by extension the First Order wouldn't have known they were going to the salt planet. Poe would have never attempted a mutiny which cost the resistance time that could have been spent preparing an escape: especially since Poe doesn't even seem to mind the plan all that much once someone actually explained it to him in detail. As a result no unnecessary death and the light-speed kamikaze could even be factored in if the resistance really needed that distraction. An added bonus would be that Rey would actually get some training which would deminish here Mary-Sue status just a little bit more though this last one may be reaching a bit.

Don't get the complaints about the acting though as I think everyone did fine with what they had.

I am liking the movie more and more reading your replies to criticisms. Doesn't feel so bad. I really will take Quan's advice and watch it again this coming weekend.

Hey, now....I love the PT the most, by average.

Everyone (including Chosen Ones) required training until TFA came along.

The training is required to better harness and control the power a Jedi already has. Rey already has an unprecedented degree of power, so even without proper training she can pull off things like lifting rocks. But nowhere in Last Jedi is Rey shown to have an unreasonable control over her raw power. In fact, the throne room scene with snoke clearly shows that Kylo Ren has better force control than Rey.

This is a criticism that works for Force Awakens, but not Last Jedi.

Especially all the criticism it gets for bad acting and terrible writing. I've never really got that from the PT. Maybe it has a little too much CGI at times, but honestly, that's about it. They're really well made movies in every other regard.

One of the biggest problems about the PT is that a big part of it is the romance subplot, but the two actors have no on-screen chemistry together, and so all their lines sound worse than they otherwise would and makes the romance not feel believable.

I think they had pretty decent chemistry together. It really felt like Anakin was in favour of a totalitarian dictatorship when he told Padme that he was in favour if it on their romantic picnic. And it really felt like a genuinely human conversation when Padme said "So love has blinded you?" and Anakin replied "You know what they say: love is blind."

I really felt the longing and connection between the two characters when Anakin grazed Padme's shoulder and told her she was smooth, at least compared to sand. And who can deny the chemistry of their very first meeting when Anakin asks Padme if she's an angel. So cute.

The Notebook can eat it's heart out at the PT's classical romance.

You sound like a butthurt fanboy who just wants feats. The story should always come first. Feats have never determined how these guys stack up to each other. Who cares if Yoda's feat isn't that impressive at the time it was. We see the feats get more wtf in time but we already know Yoda is one of the strongest Jedi with the force we have seen in canon to this point.

I guess you missed the end of the film with regards to Luke and the huge part where he kept himself cut off from it. It isn't about the feats anyways you nerdy turd.
