Watched the whole thing.
Wow, this guy pretty damn funny.
The pros:
The psycho-esque Snoke twist, while debatably good in the long run, was really epic
^ same with the Luke projection reveal, and a few other controversial scenes that were still choreographed in a cool way
Really kept you on the edge of your seat, it did a great job of invoking suspense/drama and the plot was far from predictable
The Rey vs. Luke stick fight was kinda amusing
I think Rey and Kylo had good chemistry
Mark Hamill had a brilliant performance
Overall very high quality production value
Overall very thought provoking
The cons:
With the New Republic gone things are basically status quo antebellum. It's just pre-ANH all over again.
Luke running away and hiding was pathetically out of character.
The space battles were hilariously unexciting and full of plot holes.
They've killed off the most interesting characters in the saga...
No world building or care towards the greater galaxy
Luke should've gotten a more epic send off - the projection I can live with but at least have him do something combatively awesome, fans have been waiting decades!
Finn was kind of pointless.
Lots of dropped plot points from TFA.
Captain Phasma was totally lame.

Any less reliable than RT, though? My point is that if you're going to cite RT as some meaningful evidence of something, then IMDB must also count because they're both the same thing, yet they both have different outcomes for this movie.
Personally I don't give a shit about any of the audience scores on any of these sites, doesn't mean anything other than showing that some people didn't like the movie. Big whoop.

Edit - I think them killing off all the "older timers" is a way for them to unmarry the fans from the old characters and force them into the new characters as part of the strategy to make a shit ton of films. This is Disney's way of transitioning fans like frogs in a pot of water slowly brought to a boil. Brace yourselves for the articles titled "What happened to Star Wars: It's nothing like it used to be".
The thing I keep going back to as regards to that is that, I honestly don't think people would have minded. Anyone who liked the prequels (and I count myself as liking at least part of them), has their favourite characters from that trilogy that weren't necessarily in the OT.
The original "trinity" are old as ****. There's no getting around it. They needed to be phased out somehow... But I end up thinking it's how it was done that really put people off. Han's death really wasn't done very well, and
Spoiler:isn't much better to me.
Luke's death
Finally finished the RLM review and they assess that there's nothing interesting or worth looking forward to for the next film and that's the worst damn thing you can do for a franchise like this. Good lord. And I can't believe they did Force Awakens without knowing where they were going for the next two films. That's so sloppy. I really wouldn't have expected them to just make it up as they go along. Wow. The Force Awakens was very calculated and specifically designed to rekindle nostalgia for the series, and then they just started making it up as they go along. Wtf.
They should have at least mapped out a general structure and filled in the details as they went.
Patient leech critiquing a franchise that made 2 billion in its first re entry. Rogue One made a billion plus and this one is already at 500 million. Everyone can say whether they like any particular film or not but these films are juggernauts. You also didn't understand the difference between Stormtroopers and clones so you're about as ignorant as it comes. You're just a hater with horrific taste. Riddick sucks, loser.

^ Once again conflating financial success with quality storytelling. It's okay, quanchi. I know it's never easy hearing your favorite series is being made up as they go (especially when it's a planned Trilogy, ironically enough). And yes, you are just proving the point that Star Wars is a cult.
Funnily enough, I actually really liked the part in HITB where Mike spoke about Star Wars Celebration being almost like a cult. Not sure I completely buy all his logic, but it was interesting the way he framed it.
Originally posted by Patient_LeechI never have either. Art is subjective and the Last Jedi is great. Is it universally loved ? Do you ever have a point ?

Point is it's objectively a success because these films rely on money. I also subjectively loved the latest film so quality wise is on point. I do not love any Riddick film and objectively they don't make a lot of money to garner interest in continuing the series.
You're a grumpy old man who loves dark, boring films like 1922.

Luke's death
I agree. They eventually have to die. But it doesn't have to be done with two heaping scoops of shite.

Yes, but after a certain point, success means your opinion is not in line with the masses. This is a logical fallacy, of course (argumentum ad populum). But the masses dictate what you get on these because it is a business informed decision.

Nah, he's a couple of notches below people like Ushgarak and Queeq: they are Star Wars geeks, inside and out. Sometimes, a topic will come up, and they are the type to say, "Yeah, George Lucas talked about that in his 1997 press conference in the LA Convention center. His exact words were..."
