Galen was keeping up with a "shadow of his former self" Vader. We even see that TFII Starkiller, the superior version of Galen, loses to Vader who was partially holding back, so yeah Maul takes it. Also it's kind of funny that people keep saying Maul lost to blind Kanan while completely disregarding feats, accolades and the writer's intent which all point to Kanan receiving a momuntarely amplification of power.
The "shadow of his former self" quote obviously refers to potential given Anakin and Vader's respective feats.
Starkiller never demonstrated superiority to Galen and there is no quote supporting such despite numerous people's misinterpretations.
Vader was perfectly willing to kill, granted he didn't want to. The difference in the fight was that Juno was dying right next to them which didn't leave Starkiller a lot of choices in quickly ending the fight given how close they were to begin with. The text even notes Starkiller realizing he would need to put himself into an indefensible position so that he could have time to defeat Vader and save Juno. In a fight without circumstantial factors at play I'm inclined to believe it would be more even though I do believe RotJ Vader would win against either Atarkiller or Galen in a good fight.
How does Maul take it? Even if what you were saying was true Maul would need feats of skill and power that surpass Vader's own as of TFUII.
I never used that as a point in my argument so please address that somewhere else.
