other pilots pulled trigger the trigger. He didn't halt the attacks. He also ordered every member of the resistance annihilated by the films end. His mother was there. He wanted Luke killed over and over again. Overkill is putting it mildly based off his orders to the First Order in that scene.

Vader revered over his mother and balled like a ***** let alone possibly kill her himself. He turned away from the dark side for his son.
