I believe a psychologist or psychiatrist has to sign-off before someone is allowed to undergo sex reassignment surgery in the US, iirc, so it's not like people who just woke up one day and went "I think I'll get a sex change today" get it done. It's generally a long process.
The issue here, is that the checks and balances are broken. Because of social pressure, if a professional, tries to dissuade someone from going down this path immediately, or points to some alternatives, they could be potentially viewed as a biggot. Some, are so afraid, they just encourage it. And some have completely drank the koolaid.
Filling out paperwork and jumping through hoops to some extent is technically a long process. But a "long process" doesn't mean it is a useful check. The length of the process is irrelevant. Acknowledgement of the potential causes and careful treatment is the issue.
A process shouldn't be long, it should be f*cking effective. This seems pretty reasonable. If I went on TV and pointed this out, I'd be called a biggot by some (A conservative hero by others), and the conversation would not even be entertained in the major media outlets.
Do you see the underlying issue? People are dumb af. Kids even more. Kids eat Tidepods. They are dumb AF, and with social media, they are almost hive-mind in their ability to be influenced. This should be acknowledged and addressed. As we are an affluent society, and the rate of mental illness and unhappiness skyrockets, people will turn to many things they would not normally turn to.
