I was however mad over both the water hand version with the control of water, and some minor magical abilities like dimensional travel, immune to magic. I also like the trident of Neptune. Just enough magic and utility to make him more relevant.

Sure. Though quick correction before I do, it was The Shark, not King Shark. I'm always getting those two mixed up. It was V5 (the 1994 series) issue 31. It's called "Shark Bait".
I feel like there's a middle ground. I don't want him to be Gandalf. I just hate all the gimmicks. Just make them exotic powers he can bust out every so often.

I could get behind the idea that Motherboxes grant resistance or even immunity but I’d have to actually see it stated before I full on just accept it.
In regards to Aquaman’s Psychic abilities he does more than just communicate with people or animals. He has like 4 telekinetic feats to my knowledge in his entire continuity

There’s the Basal Gangia thing you brought up that isn’t traditional telepathy since it’s not controlling or putting suggestions in someone’s mind but shutting it down completely or altering a motor function.
His Battle with Kordax was them pinging their telepathy off each other which was causing nearby Atlanteans and according to narration everything on the globe to suffer.
In a Deep Dives issue by Steve Orlando he even traps Kordax in his own mind leaving him to be Practically a living corpse

Apologies if you seen all of this stuff before but at the very least it could of freshened your memory on his Psychic abilities. Aquaman isn’t just traditional Telepathy. Even then I’d think showings for Orion’s defense should be presented.

I like Garth’s powers but I like them for Garth not Aquaman.
What they should do with Aquaman is go back and start increasing his telepathy and give him back the Poseidon Blessing and Trident. They could and should also expand more on the whole Life Force thing Scott Snyder introduced. They could connect it to the Clear.
It’s funny how animated Aquaman and video game Aquaman is consistently more versatile with his trident than comic Aquaman seems to be.
The dc site claims his telepathy makes him one of the most powerful minds on the planet and I think the comics should follow suit with that
They did this thing in Scott Snyder’s Justice League run where they were explaining the universal forces and Aquaman was basically the avatar or the foundation for the Life Force one of the 7 fundamental forces of the universe.
It’s pretty unclear what that even entails but I think there’s potential there to give him a lot of versatility. It’s weird though because he’s also considered a telepath and one of the other forces deals with that and he could also be tied to the force Diana is connected to just as easily to.
3 out of 7 of these forces could legitimately easily tie to Aquaman.
I think an easy way they could do it is give Aquaman telepathic abilities but also make it something that he’s not really too fond of outside asking sealife for help. It could be as common as Superman using his heatvision to lobotomize someone or Flash phasing into people or speed stealing people. Ability he’s capable of doing but doesn’t do so.

No I didn't. I said it protects him from telepathy. There is a vast range of mental attacks that aren't telepathy. To be more specific it protects him from mental control or influence.

Again Aquaman’s telepathy has been shown to be more than just control or influence. Staggering Swampthing, trapping Kordax in his own mind, Giving a white Martian a seizure, he even dropped Tiamat with TP.
I appreciate the scan it provides the implication that Orion might not be susceptible to telepathy due to his Mother box but it’s also Martian Manhunter stating it with uncertainty “He may be able to use his mother box to block any influence”
What’s that scan from by the way if you don’t mind me asking that’s the first time I seen it suggested Aquaman is more susceptible to telepathy than Superman and I’d be curious to know in what context was this threat happening in. Given during the same time period Aquaman resisted mind control from The Trans that The League and The Spectre we’re unable to.
