They aren't. See Final Crisis sketchbook for new versions of the Forever People.

I'm sure Morrison isn't about to linger on terrible Countdown plot points. Everything New God related now is a mystery (we don't know what happened when they "died" or the fallout of the "war in heaven), treat it as such, and enjoy the story!

Personally...I hope Morrison retcons everything from Countdown. Like it never existed...that leaves a much better taste in my mouth than the actual reading.

I do think he retconned the New Gods out of continuity period. Like from Precrisis Until now. Personally I would love that. Death of the New Gods was meh. The only thing I liked about that was the rejoining of the source and his cold calculating moves. Countdown irked me to no end. That entire series should be retconned.

Hal and John recognized Orion so obviously they weren't retconned. I'm sure the wonky JLA scene will be explained.

The 'wacky' dialogue in some parts of the story was necessary due to familiarizing readers with what the hell is going on/who the characters shown are.

Explaining who they are is one thing. Most of the JLA being unfamiliar with them is another and what most have a problem with.

Hal and John knew who they were because of thier rings giving them info and maybe becuz they are space cops.

Either way, it clearly wasn't retconned.

Someone can be retconned and still be there. Look at Superboy prime for example. He was retconned out of existance and yet was still there. The guardians aren't affected by Retcons and as such would know about the 4th world and the 5th. So the rings would know too right?

That's not a retcon, bud. 🙂

Well wiped from continuity. You get what I'm saying. It never happened. That is a retcon of sorts. At least to the characters themselves. I just reread final crisis, No one on Earth knows who the New Gods. And the Only human versions of the New Gods are the ones from the Seven Soldiers.

Batman (and Superman) knew who they were too since he prepared documents for the rest of the League. It's only odd because they had to explain it to the rest of the League who should already know too, obviously.

Its only issue one, and i am all for the story picking up and morrison doing his thing....but there are so many things that felt wrong, i just hope that the main story is contained in the series and not in tie-ins from other comics,i will gladly give the whole series a chance and keep an open mind

A fan expressed some disappointment with the first issue of Final Crisis. In response both Jones and Sattler said “Don’t worry.” J.G. added that “The pace picks up immediately with issue #3. Grant structures his stories in such a specific way, and you will see why the first issue has so much set up. It all pays off!”

Sattler then chimed in with a nice hint for the DC faithful- “You know those ads we are running that say ‘The day evil won’? Well, that specifically means the events in Final Crisis issues #3 and #4. The end of issue #3 is when evil literally wins. Issue #3 ends with a cliffhanger, and there will be a noticeable gap in time for the DCU between issues #3 and #4.”

A fan then asked if Final Crisis was essentially a re-interpretation of the New Gods. Sattler hemmed and hawed for a few seconds before saying “I can’t really say. Just wait and see, Grant has had this story brewing for almost 5 years.” Jones added that “The New Gods are being treated more like actual gods, not just superheroes that call themselves the New Gods. We did a lot of research into mythology for this. There’s definitely an effort to get a clear knitting of all the Jack Kirby 4th world stuff and the regular DCU so it all makes sense.”

A fan then quickly asked “Weren’t the New Gods killed in Countdown to Final Crisis?” Sattler answered “Yes…” Another fan then asked if what we see in Final Crisis #1 is the New Gods being reborn in human form. Sattler - “Maybe…”

A question was asked about what Sattler’s favorite moment in Final Crisis is - “The end of issue 2. It’s a huge fanboy moment!”

I guess people hear about Morrison and haven't really read his material. He's pretty much known for doing exactly what you copied there. His stories are set up meticulously and and unravel beautifully.

To be fair this issue was slow even for a Morrison 1st Issue.

On a personal level though I think the thing that really disappointed me about this issue was the lack of tension. Morrison isn't just about getting a slow start one of things I love about him is the tension he can make early on without revealing a lot.

IMO you could have cut the tension in this Issue with a hair. The only decent moment I had in this issue was the panel where Libra said, "I want my twilight of the gods." Everything else was lackluster and I felt in this issue, once again even for a Morrison work, he was only a decent writer, which is not what I expect from him.

Still he did what he always tries to do. He established several possible plot lines and scenarios to keep a watch out for. I look forward in hoping this series picks up, cause Morrison is still a great writer and this has a lot of potential.

I've read and enjoyed plenty of Morrison but the issue was still mediocre. Let's not make him immune to criticism.

I just hope DC doesn't go ape shit with Final Crisis tie-ins. A few are okay, but an ass load of 'em is.... meh. ermm

The only ones that will be worth reading will be the two written by Morisson, the three written by Geoff Johns and the one offs written by Greg Rucka and Brad Metzler. Id buy the likes off Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Action and Batman because they are wicked titles.

I just realized that Libra is sitting in the Mobius chair. Don't know how I missed that the first time though, especially since Light and MirrorMaster were making it.

Good catch. This begs the question, where was that place that the Titans found the chair, and where is Metron ?

I haven't been kept up with DOTNG but isn't Metron dead?
