To be fair this issue was slow even for a Morrison 1st Issue. On a personal level though I think the thing that really disappointed me about this issue was the lack of tension. Morrison isn't just about getting a slow start one of things I love about him is the tension he can make early on without revealing a lot.
IMO you could have cut the tension in this Issue with a hair. The only decent moment I had in this issue was the panel where Libra said, "I want my twilight of the gods." Everything else was lackluster and I felt in this issue, once again even for a Morrison work, he was only a decent writer, which is not what I expect from him.
Still he did what he always tries to do. He established several possible plot lines and scenarios to keep a watch out for. I look forward in hoping this series picks up, cause Morrison is still a great writer and this has a lot of potential.
I disagree immensely, I think there was immense tension through out, you get the impression that something seriously sinister is about to unfold. I love the Enigmatic direction in which Morison is taking the New Gods. I think he's appealing a lot more to psychology and philosophy than the traditional Gods = Powerful Superheroes theme. I mean Gods are supposed to be Ineffable and unintelligible by nature. Its this mysterious quality that makes them that much more scary, Especially when they are the Gods of Evil.

I haven't been kept up with DOTNG but isn't Metron dead?
Metron asked the Source to kill him in the final issue. At the opening of FinalCrisis we see Metron talking to Anthro. His form is different so it can be assumed that it is Metron in his 5th World form (though DS is in his 7 Soldiers form later on).
Orion (apparently unchanged) is murdered during the issue and the 5th World form of the BlackRacer is seen in the distance.

I just assumed she was rape bounty lol.I was confused about who the chick and weird looking...fish guy are. Chick must be Talia Al Ghul.
It's Ocean Master, and yeah pretty sure it's Talia
I take it the Black guy whom wakes up in his bed at the End is the Re-Incarnation of Orion ?
I don't think the Death of the New Gods has been retconned, but it does look like Morisson has ignored it. Unless one of DARKSIDES new powers is the ability to inflict World Wide Amnesia. Its also a bit weird that Guardians only choose to seal the Planet off after the last N.G. dies. Also Orion's death can't possibly b'e that much of a mystery to Turpin. I mean his last battle with his 'daddy basically shredded Metropolis. And who the Hell is Kanto, Darksieds other body guard ?
Other wise really enjoyed the issue. Darkside looks pretty scary, and i like the New multiversal machine, although its a blatant rip off of Planetary Snow Flake design.

I think the black guy who wakes up at the end is a Monitor....others have said the same
I have reservations about this story..its one thing to have a big name in comics doing the main story, but so much was leading up to this event...and its all been thrown out the window?...maybe its me but when you have countdown and other mini's and more than enough promos over a year in the making....issue 1 should have made me excited and anticipating more...while feeling like"yeah this is what i have waited for!" instead i feel like i have been duped...but i will hang in there till the end
It appears DS is going to rebuild Intergang.
What doesn't make sense is the new Tattooed Man leading Turpin to Boss Dark Side. It should Bruno..he arranges meetings.
Also, at first, it didn't make sense to have Montoya in this issue. But then I realize she was involved with the Crime Bible in the spin-off to 52. So she probably is aware that Intergang's plans.
