I just read final crisis one and wasnt impressed at all. I hope it gets much better than Darkseid brainwashing kids. Meh.
you make it sound like that was the highlight of the story, not the
Spoiler:
casual, almost non event that was the death of one of the big 7, or orion's appearence, and thats just two...
So in the end .. what's the deal with Countdown ? Does it become non-canon ?
Not to mention the apparent different interpretations of the anti-life seen from both Morrison and Starlin. Does that also make DoTNG non-canon ?
And am I the only one that likes Final Crisis #1 more and more with each read ? The atmosphere is perfect and pretty much all plots seem very interesting.
Seriously, besides the continuity issues (which are not Morrison's fault), what does everybody find wrong about this issue ?

It's very relaxed. Even though a variety of important things happen nothing is really made of them and nothing is really developed in them. FC1 is a great set up for the rest of the story but doesn't stand on its own at all.

It's not supposed to stand on its own since it's the first issues of a mini-series that are supposed to stand on their own, thus containing a lot of set-up.
As for the variety of the important things happening and not developing, what do you expect ? GM revealed as much as he could to make people interested in the story. You expect the first issue to explain and expand upon everything that's happening ?

There are many styles of writing and some series start almost at the end and then let you see what lead up to it ,or some actually use what came before and build on it....so i agree and disagree...taste is taste
I actually expect them to explain and expand in the first issue, when countdown and DOTNG are tossed aside and we are supposed to have faith in the higher ups, who have said in so many words...."we suckered you"
I like Grant Morrison and i dont really blame him or make him responsible for continuity, but he works for DC and they dropped the ball big time I.M.O
I have to say I really enjoyed the first issue.
It was a setup issue alright but that's Morrison's way and it was a very good setup issue.
And it had some really cool moments like Metron's gift, Darkseid's claim that he won the war in heaven and Superman saying they have to deal with celestials capable of cracking the planet in half.
But the fact tha Countdown and DOTNG seem pointless really is a black mark on DC's side

I was telling you what people seemed to have a problem with, not giving you my opinion.

There's nothing wrong with it and it's a very good issue which sets everything up extremely well. However it didn't have that epic feel to it that comics with the word "Crisis" in should. I'm sure the storyline will be on the whole just as good as the previous "Crisis" or maybe even better than the storylines but I don't feel the same awesome sense of grandeur that I felt wiht the others. I don't feel as though worlds will live or die just yet. Hopefully upcoming issues will prove me wrong but it's certainly not the same multiverse shattering pace as COIE #1 or IC #1.
Once I heard Darkseid's rebirth sent him back in time to around Infinite Crisis and was involded in 52 I had to dig em out and read em again.
Issue 25, the Intergang boss states, "A dark angel made of living granite placed its stinking, smoking hand against his chest and held it there as it whispered to him the sickening secrets of the Dark Side. Held it there until the heart within was blackened and shriveled beyond repair. That day Bruno became an apostle of evil, an evangelist of crime."
Issue 46, Doctor Cale of mad scientist island..."It's not about the global crime state. Beyond Mannheim, beyond Chung Tzu, there are others. And they already walk among us." "...The forces of evil are gathering, don't you understand? The Final Crisis is coming. Servants of death and despair. Apostles of Anti-Life. Their goal is eternal slavery and destruction of the human free will."
Juicy.
