Likewise I'd say there's only so much you can blame on the Director, when the studio has screwed this franchise up 3/3 times now.

The FF have fought the same (misused) villain 3/3 times, and the plot to this is the same as their Original one: 5 guys get superpowers during science experiment, struggle to deal, one of them goes mad, the other 4 team up to stop him at the end.

Fox after already having done this green lighted a repeat with a "different tone" but then kept cutting back on the budget and butting in and changing the film, not letting the Director just make the film he wanted (which he already tweeted out).

And this seems to confirm all that:

Well as corny and as bad as the last 2 were, at least the first was a fun movie (and not a repeat of anything) and at least the Surfer was portrayed decently in the 2nd.

I honestly feel like going back and rewatching those ones, instead of watching the new one.

Except that the last two ff films were produced by an entirely different regime at Fox. It's not the same people. As far as the current regime is concerned, Fox is 0/1

The first two films were too goofy, and this film is too serious. It's funny that FF may never join the MCU, when the MCU has exactly the goofy-serious balance that the FF needs.

Then the new regime they've picked is as an even bigger failure than the previous one (for this franchise at least).

Fox is still a 3/3 fail on this.. Well tbd the first one was pretty profitable.

But point is, Fox has failed this franchise. No point diverting blame solely to Trank (who they hired anyway). They need to let this franchise go now.

So watched Fantastic Four this morning with some friends.

It. Was. Horrible!

The first half was average. The actors were decent and thought there was some legit good chemistry among the cast.

The problem was the script and storyline. There was some legit cringe worthy dialog and isn't wasn't sporadic.

Also the progression of the story was horrible.

The best part of the movie was making fun of all the bad parts with my friends. It was so bad.

Just thought about it but couldn't this movie still break even when it opens in China? Not that it would make much of a difference in Fox's future plans.

Fox pretty much killed f4

Fox will still act like children concerning the rights

Not so much with the The Daredevil tv show from what i hear.

To be honest, Daredevil was still pretty comic booky. It was violent and gritty, but in that way that RoboCop was violent and gritty. It's not REAL gritty, just aesthetically gritty. Which isn't a bad thing.

i'm really curious how they are going to add the daredevil netflix style to the greater marvel cinematic universe. Man, i can't wait for Civil War. I heard he will have a cameo.

So in other words not goofy.

Kinda actually, but it works.

Doubt it. The amount they keep from China's ticket sales are very small compared with other countries. They keep the largest portion of ticket sales domestically, which is why domestic numbers are always crucial in deciding the fate of a franchise.

Yep, Insanity is the only word I can think of right now:

"while we're disappointed, we remain committed to these characters and we have a lot to look forward to in our Marvel universe".

Insane F***ers

Even the unreleased 1994 version was better than this.

Like the other poster said, let's hope it's just bravado.

Anything is possible with Fox, though. They're probably enjoying themselves a lot at this point, ruining F4 and the most popular villain of the MU, Doom.

This article makes a pretty relevant point:

But that’s exactly what someone in Aronson’s shoes has to say, just to make sure he doesn’t hurt the box office return even more by denouncing the movie. After all, they still have Blu-Ray and DVD product to sell later.

man i feel bad for this movie and the people involved. Its getting killed everywhere. I saw it, didn't love it but i still thought it was watchable. I just hated the whole skipped a whole year of character/power development. And yes, Doom looks very "wtf?!".

4 pages of Max Landis's F4 script
