Johns intent is pretty clear: the Corps, specifically Hal Jordan, have grown beyond the influence of the Guardians who've gone from noble intentions to just being phucking stupid space trolls clinging on to their status. I always like the Guardians and would have preferred that they kept their status and only be used when absolutely necessary. The last time they even seemed remotely formidable as a whole was when they confronted the Anti-Monitor personally (in what was still to date the best GL arc ever, imo).
Since then, their majesty has waned to the point where it's like they don't even matter. Which is kind of the point Johns is trying to make, imo.

That's cool. I liked when Ganthet with just a power ring was able to hold off hordes of GLs that Henshaw threw at him pre-reboot.

Gaea has very few combat "showings" even when she's been around awhile. Doesn't mean we get to suddenly ignore the combat "feats" she DOES have.
The context was that she was far above them. So much that they were no more than gnats.
