Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I have avoided all spoiler tags in this thread. Thank you all for doing that. I know what I'm getting into when I come into a thread like this. I fully expect something to be spoiled (meaning, I blame myself for clicking this thread). But I really did want to read the high-level, non-spoiler reviews from people I have come to love and respect over the years (Queeq, PR, Bardock42, etc.).

Your reviews have me rather stoked. I can't see this until Sunday (that's when my tickets are). But, holy crap, I am not very excited about seeing it.

Leaving soon to go to the theatre for this. Prepare yourselves for my spoiler free summation.

I cannot wait to see this in a few hours.

Really? Well, you should. It really is great fun and I can tell you, Ford is sublime!

Spoiler:
I enjoyed the movie, alot of nostalgia and you can't go wrong with that.

Few points tho - skywalker, we were sold Luke, Han and Leia were all due back but Luke gets 90 seconds of screen time, I hope the second part of this trilogy revolves around him.

Han's death, where do I begin. There was no need, it seems they just threw it in there. Nothing against the decision to axe him, but maybe a little more emotion, maybe even if his son embraced him longer and kept up the act for a 10-15 mins.

I agree with someones previous comment too, Han was killed and all Chewie could do was walk past Leia and say nothing, not even a pat on the back? Strange!

I am very looking forward to the next two movies, younger generation of actors did really well. Hope you all enjoy guys!

In the SW section I started a thread where we can discuss with spoilers.

I searched all those forums, we need a new trilogy forum, too much going about

thanks to those who posted spoiler free reviews.. I will do the same tomorrow after I return home from seeing this..

🙂.. I'll be in that thread tomorrow

Yes, well I can agree with you on that. I still have to make up my mind actually. But so far we're basically in agreement. 😉

Oh, please do check out the TFA discussion thread in the SW section.

I may do that. 👆

I doubt she is. She better not. It doesn't have to be Skywalker related to be force sensitive. But yeah, I agree with the ease she manages to control the Force. One of the weaker elements of this movie, IMHO.
Spoiler:
Yeah, it was basically whatever she wanted it to be, which was strange.

Spoiler:
aye, it should have been a bigger moment given the character's role in the trilogy. At least we get new stuff with him in a couple of years though.

But yeah, the spoiler thread etc

So I just got home...

Obviously this is a first impression, and I might feel different about it after a while, but...

Spoiler:
It's not bad. It's not bad at all. It's actually good in places. Maybe even very good at points.

There is a lot, though, and I mean a LOT, of drawing from the old movies. Some of it is fun references and throwbacks, but some feels blatantly lifted from the original trilogy. The strange effect is that at times, it does feel very much like a Star Wars movie. And yet at others, it feels like Abrams took what Lucas had made, and tried a little too hard to put his own spin on it to the point where it felt like he just didn't "get" Star Wars.

****ing strange, I tell ya.

Like I said, it's not a bad movie by any means. I'll probably rewatch it when it comes out on bluray/dvd. Just not clamouring to go and see it again.

So yeah, sure some will disagree. Some might even agree. We'll see.

Exactly what I was afraid of.

Seeing this tonight!! Can't wait. Work's gonna suck tomorrow but that's okay.

Have fun man.

Well, well, well. Just got home from the theatre after seeing it. Was my prediction true ? Was it the best star wars film to date ?

Thanks!

Unreal. Lived up to the hype.

I was not impressed.

Probably wouldn't feel this way if the hype wasn't so high.

I don't expect anyone to agree with me.

I'd say it almost lived up to the hype. Though that's because I doubt any cinematic project could live up to the colossal hype generated for this movie.

With that said

Spoiler:
I liked the character interactions the most and the call backs to the older Star Wars films. Not sure how I feel about this new Sith Lord and while his introduction was awesome, Kylo Ren kind of came off as a crybaby at times: maybe it way the face. Oh and the bigger&badder Death Star thing was dumb...the fun kind of dumb

You are so disappointed you can't even give your opinion? Or are you waiting to see what's the consensus to stubbornly be against it?

I am waiting to for posters to pine over my opinion. I know what Robbie thinks I'm going to say. I never shy away from sharing my opinion but maybe a little buildup is needed. My opinion is strong that's for sure.

Ah, so you loved it, gotcha.
