Star Wars: The Force Awakens

this is one of best films that I have seen. Star Wars: The Force Awakens to me is on par with Empire Strikes Back.... I loved everything about the film... Initially I had doubts about Abrams but those fears are no more... Great story. space battles, fight scenes.. Will not spoil anything but I knew I was right about some things... Will be seeing this at least another 5 or more times.. easily 5 out of 5 stars/ 10 out of 10

Wow! That's high praise coming from you. I can't waaaait!

I saw it last night. I couldn't review it until now.

All I'll say so as not to spoil anything is that it was VERY Good. Was it perfect? No. There are some things that weigh it down. BUT, it's EASILY better than any of the prequels and right up there in terms of quality with the originals. I'd say, after first watch I give it a solid 9/10.

To be able to do what she did, Rey must be incredibly strong in the force. This leads me to believe she's Luke's long lost daughter.

Spoiler:
It's possible Luke sent Rey to Jakku for safety from the dark side just as Obi Wan had sent Luke to Tattoine for safety from Vader.

Even then, I don't buy it. Even Anakin, the Chosen One, could not tap into the Force like that without training.

On another note, I found Rey's acting ability to be rather lacking. I mean it was passable I guess, but as the lead character that has to carry the trilogy? Can't see it.

I wonder if people's opinions will change after this dies down a little in a few months.

Let's remember that Luke with absolutely no training was able to blindly predict and deflect the training blasters. Obviously some pretty impressive feats come very fast, at least to very powerful force users that start in their adult life.

I'm glad to see everyone spoiling the movie for others

Yah, just because you want to bash the movie, use spoilers ffs. Reporting you because this is getting ridiculous.

What was spoiled?

Further, what was spoiled that was not already "spoiled" in the post I quoted by Firefly? A mod quoted the same post and had no problems with it.

I love it that you announce that you are 'reporting' me. Reminds me of 3rd grade.

I don't think it has anything to do with "spoilers", more like you don't like my opinion and can't handle it.

Not cool at all, what the **** is the matter with you people.

Guys, use spoiler tags. You've already been told at least once.

Spoiler:
Deflecting bolts is what they teach younglings. It's like one of the earliest lessons a Jedi gets.

Deflecting bolts is far different to what Rey did in the movie, imo.

**** everyone

Spoiler:
We're talking about the PT/OT now, do we still need to use spoilers...

Anyway, the other point is deflecting bolts I think is more about letting the force guide you. Telekinesis and mind trick is something that is actively used and likely a technique that needs to be taught/learned.

If the post it's in has it being compared to the new movie, then yes, please.

Sure, could be.

Spoiler:
I'm more concerned with how exactly Kylo Renw as able to kill all of Luke's other Padawan. Unlike RoTS where Anakin had an opening and Clone army to support his kid massacre, I'm not sure how Kylo Ren manage to do as much damage as he did an get away with it w/o Luke doing anything about it.

Nice adventure story in the vein of ANH (but no where near as epic tbh).

But in comparison to the other Star Wars movies, I just feel that Lucas magic was missing personally.

That being said I can't wait to see Episode 8. I think with the build up Abrams has done in this one, and with Rian Johndon directing, Ep.8 could be the next Empire Strikes Back. But this one was not.

I also doubt this will become the biggest movie of all time. Having said that I'm looking forward to seeing it again tomorrow with all the expectations out of the way.

Spoiler:
I am guessing because Kylo was far stronger than the others who were probably noobs. He is a Skywalker afterall.

I also got the impression that Kylo fought with Luke. I say this because of Luke's metal hand - am I failing to remember something or is Luke supposed to have an organic looking robot hand? This makes me think it got cut off/damaged again some time between Episode 6 and 7

I hated this movie. It was ASTOUNDINGLY unoriginal, to the point where it made me feel ashamed that this was my first midnight screening for a film.

thanks..

it's a great mix of old and new

Another problem among many with the film is that

Spoiler:
it uses the planet destroying Death Star concept again. After what happened to Alderaan in ANH you'd think the Republic planets would prepare some safeguards to make sure it doesn't happen again, like a shield maybe... Also the map to Skywalker makes no sense, and why does R2D2 suddenly and conveniently wake up at the end with all the missing information and no one previously thought to check R2D2 for the info. And Rey randomly mastering the Jedi mind trick is still the worst moment in the movie

I have lots of more problems with the movie but those are the most glaring. Overall this movie is 7/10

I completely disagree that it's even remotely close to Empire Strikes Back in terms of quality. I'm glad the comparison is being made though because that means it's a good movie.
