Happens.

You were pretty much spot on in your early predictions of this being a rehash of what we've seen already. So kudos.

Wonder how much of a hand Disney had in that decision considering the ridiculous amount of marketing that went behind this movie.

If we only knew what happened behind the scenes. Egos galore.

I think it was all Abrams. People were saying from Day 1 they hope Abrams didn't give too many nods to the OT like he did with Star Trek.

Turns out he didn't give nods, he just rehashed the entire plot of ANH.

I personally feel he was a much better fit for Trek.

You can't say it is all Abrams with Kasdan co writing the film. He is also known for collaboration.

This is an interesting discussion. Especially since it is fun to compare this situation to Marvel.

Just saw the movie. I was hoping for better. All they did was remake ANH and did not do as good. Kylo Ren was the only character that stood out. The actor did a good job.

The last fight scene was ridiculous. I don't care what awakening she had, no way she is beating Kylo Ren, injured or not, with absolutely no training.

Yeah if Abrams did one thing correctly it was getting good performances from his actors. None of awkward stuff from the prequels(for the most part).

Spoken like a butthurt dc fanboy. There is nothing wrong with what Marvel is doing. They make good movies and make lots of money. They are setting the stage for Thanos. DC can HOPE to be as successful. Personally, I hope they do well. Competition is a good thing.

Oh, geez.

so yeah...star wars

So much hate in this thread

Well if he had to deal with Disney's micromanaging his project in order to make a quota, it would certainly be interesting to hear about.

Considering Disney owns both I wonder if they treat their properties the same. Afterall they did drop 4 billion dollars on the license which is more than what they paid for Marvel even if you adjust to inflation.

I believe they payed roughly 4 billion for each. I'll have to look. Either way, Disney is going to be printing money at the movies with these to properties. Not like they weren't already.

?

I'm comparing Star Wars, a property bought by Disney, to Marvel, another property bought by Disney and saying it is interesting to speculate how Disney treats the two properties differently. DC never came up nor will it ever because I haven't watched a DC film since Nolan's Batman. I wish nothing but the best for both studios though.

If WB stopped sticking their nose in everything, they'd probably be more successful.

Trust me, I'm hoping for them to succeed. I'm not super happy with their superman. We've had 2 grim Supes movies. Batfleck looks like it might be great though. Still on the fence about WW. Hate her casting but maybe Gal can prove me wrong.

I don't know, WB is generally pretty successful.

Well they royally screwed up the marketing for this.

3 years of hype and mystery down the toilet in 1 move. They're marketing team for this sucks.

Edit- Wait, this is the Star Wars thread? Thought I was posting in the BvS or CW thread there.

Yup, that is a shame because the movie did so many things very well, but have an original story was not one of them. But hey, that's what Hollywood does, is rehash the same plot. Look at Jurassic World. It was extremely successful and it was pretty much a remake of JP1.

The studio could have had a big hand in the writing. They wanted to jumpstart the series in a big way, so what better way than to go back to the beginning? It's all about reboots these days.
