if only they had as much internet hype built up as when 'gone with the wind' was released. then TPM would have gotten a fair shot.

In the novelization, it was revealed that Snoke and Kylo Ren knew what went down in the Death Star between Palpatine and Anakin. Snoke explains to Kylo had Anakin killed Luke, the Empire would've prevailed, suggesting that he was present during the events of Ep4-6. Then Kylo replies he won't be easily swayed to the Light Side. Which kinda explains why he killed his father.

Does the novelization explain why Ren turned evil or are we slated to be disappointed by that in episode VIII?

Rian Johnson will probably do a fine job but his flick is already facing a lot of challenges by sheer design.

Lol. I know. They just get mad at the facts.

Who's saying that? The figures I mentioned were just a means of expressing TFA advantages in publicity over previous installments of the franchise.

It didn't. It seemed like Kylo was infatuated with becoming as strong, or stronger, than the chosen one. Snoke was telling him indirectly had Anakin killed his son and not lost some of his limbs, he would've been the strongest Force user of all time, Sith or Jedi. Kylo felt like it was his destiny to become stronger, since he believed he was the only surviving member of the Skywalker lineage. So he chose the Dark Side to become stronger asap. It wasn't directly stated in the novelization, but Snoke definitely had some part in convincing him to turn to the Dark Side. Snoke gave him Darth Vader's helmet, suggesting he was in the Death Star when Palpatine and Anakin died.

The Phantom Menace, so good it hurts:

Then again unlike TPH, this movie can not only sell itself with the Star Wars name but also use Disney's umbrella to prop itself.

Yep. Every time I walk in on my nephews and nieces watching Disney channel, there's TFA marketing on.

Lucasfilm on it's own was never going to compare in marketing to a Disney backed Lucasfilm, that's just common sense.

And Disney definitely has more credit amongst most reviewers and by the film industry in general.

So both of CPT's measure of TFA's superiority over The Prequels (his "Facts"😉 are pretty questionable.

Really? Because it seems to me like this topic will carry on until Everyone agrees that "The Vast Majority of People absolutely Adore this movie, and ALL rate it above ALL the Prequels." LOL

Oh and this article on Forbes Defending TFA makes it clear this film has proven to be divisive:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2015/12/30/is-star-wars-the-force-awakens-one-of-the-most-disappointing-movies-of-the-year/

"Still, for all that, it’s a pretty divisive movie. A lot of Star Wars fans have complained that it’s basically a rehashing of Episode IV."

So no point in pretending that the vast majority of people are absolutely adoring this film. All we know is that the Star Wars brand name backed by a mega media company like Disney is shattering box office records. That's a very different thing to proof that "Everyone loves this."

"Oh look. A random article that agrees with me."

You learn that one from your endless "debates" with Quanchi?

The film holds an outstanding 8.5 on IMDB, a very strong 90% audience rating with an average of 4.4, and is heading for an insanely good OW multiplier for the way BO works nowadays. Sure, a few years down the road we may learns that this was all hype, but right now it seems the vast majority of people are enjoying this film. Currently, it's far from divisive.

In all seriousness, you guys should all watch this video. It sheds light into Lucas' methodology and, hell, if nothing else Ewan McGregor kicks ass while training....lol. Ray Park has a black eye so I'm assuming Ewan must have missed once.

Ok, I finally saw TFA last night with the family. I've stayed away from this thread and all others so I could go into the movie with no surprises or any prejudice. Well, maybe i'm getting too old, but I thought it sucked.

It was a rehashed storyline of ANH with a neutered down, pale imitation of the original villain. I mean Kylo Ren sucked so bad that he struggled with a custodial stormtrooper and a teenage girl who just acquired the force in a sabre duel. Real menacing. The ending was one of the most cringe worthy things i've seen on film. It was supposed to be climatic and it came across as stupid. She just stood there presenting the sabre, but it went on for so long my wife and I started to laugh. I can honestly say that the only part I really enjoyed was the Falcon, Tie Fighter chase in the desert.

All in all, this film gets 3 exploding planets out of 10. Disappointing.

Wow, another fan!

He's clearly in the minority. Not sure where this 1% minority keeps pooping up from on these boards because the vast majority of people absolutely love this movie, that's been scientifically proven.

I tried to edit my post because I used the wrong wording but couldn't. I wasn't meant to present it as proof that this is divisive, just that there clearly are people who are not liking this movie, and that CPT doesn't speak for the GA.

Now you're using CPT's tactics, of deciding what the GA thinks. Again, I'l tell you what I've been trying to explain to CPT. TPM also had an Amazing box office multiplier. ROTS has 7.7 and 79% on Rotten Tomatoes (10 years after release). Does that mean anyone who doesn't like TPM or ROTS should be told they're clearly in the minority?

I'm sorry, i didn't realise the discussion of this film was limited to positive things about it.

Quit trying to put people in a box. You hated this film and pretty much everything about it. We all get it. Let it go, kid.
