The problem is why did he send Maul after Amidala? His plan seems to rely on the Queen getting to the Senate and calling for a Vote of no Confidence on the Chancellor. So why would he dispatch his most capable servant after her, especially since it also reveals the existence of the Sith to the Jedi? It doesn’t make sense. I guess it’s possible that wasn’t his plan at all and he just lucked out but IDK.

Now admittedly this is getting very nit-picky and isn’t something that will stick out on a first viewing (or a second or a third).

Actually, the order from Palps was, "kill the Jedi and capture the Queen."

Why would he want to capture the Queen? And reveal themselves to the Jedi? That was the plan...wasn't it? Gives the Jedi things to get distracted about. A phantom to fight.

You do realize that the character you're calling intimidating got the shit kicked out of him by a girl who was several years younger than him, right?

He wanted Maul to capture the Queen so he could return her to Naboo where she would sign the Treaty. He says as much to Maul.

And revealing themselves to the Jedi makes no sense. Sure, it gives them a “phantom” to fight but in this case it’s not some lie but actually what they are up against. Admittedly, he probably expected Maul to kill the Jedi and the dialogue hints as such.

A good comparison for Ren that I've heard is to a school shooter. He's insane and unstable and something in him is just broken. He's got that thing where he looks like a normal dude and it's kind of horrible how he could have just been a ok guy but chose to start killing people cuz he snapped.

Also he is in essence, literally a school shooter.

Oh I think we will. This guy will have an arc.

I do like reading your posts here and in the SW forums

It's fear that an unstable super villain might cut them to pieces. We saw earlier that guy reporting to him had legitimate fear for Ren.

So why didn't Ren just slash & kill the guy in the first place?

Instead Ren throws a childish tantrum & destroys the console in front of him.

That's equivalent to walking down a supermarket aisle & seeing a kid throw a hissy fit because his mom won't buy him a chocolate.

You're not fearful of your life, you're just dumbfounded at the bratty antics.

Darth Thor is afraid of Joffrey.

Are you guys serious? Kylo Ren is Joffrey from a Game of Thrones. Of course soldiers are afraid of him, but that doesn't change the fact that he's a complete b*tch.
Oh please Joffrey was a pansy and Kylo was a damn warrior whose skills and powers made people afraid to be around when he was angry. Horrible comparison.

Ren's no Joffrey. Joffrey was actually intimidating. Ren's More like AOTC Whiny Anakin except trying to be a Dark Sider already.

Han was right. Ren had too much of his grandfather in him.

Ren wasn't intimidating ? Are you kidding me ? Then you go on to say Joffrey the whiny crybaby himself is more intimidating than Kylo Ren. This is quite frankly absurd and you don't know what the word whining means. Clearly.

You are a traitor.

He later chokes him and the guy is clearly afraid for his life. You saying he wasn't is just showing an inability to understand a scene.

That was fear of his rage and his powers. We see someone earlier in the film trembling in fear of his rage. Do you understand any of this ?

And we also see Snoke telling Ren to stop choking an officer.
Ren knows he can't wantonly kill his officers without repercussions.
And that's why he focuses his tantrum on destroying equipment instead.

It's not so much as fear but more frustration these officers have towards Ren.
Having to serve an immature leader is the equivalent to being an under paid babysitter.

What ? When ?

Ren rages out when he wants to. Of course he can't say shit to Snoke because he's the alpha male but that doesn't make that random storm troopers fear any less. Yes, it was clearly fear. They weren't frustrated they were clearly scared.

Yeah Joffrey tied a hooker up & used her for target practice with his cross bow.
Ren couldn't kill Rey.
Facts.

Rey had force powers. Did the hooker possess any training or powers ?

That silly little context getting in your way. Ren also wanted to train her, dummy. She is clearly very powerful in the force.

2 Storm Troopers doing an abrupt turn & walk away was played for comedic effect & not a scene of fear & intimidation.

The entire audience chuckled at that scene. It was funny at Ren's expense.

Yes, it was comedic but they turned around out of fear and intimidation. We saw another guy tortuted by Kylo when he received bad news and these guys didn't want any part of it.

🙂

Just pointing out Joffrey was malicious, cunning & sadistic.
He kills & tortures who he wants without fear of reprisals.

Ren dreams of being Joffrey.

What does that have to do with the point ? You took a situation of some girl with no powers or skill and had her at the mercy of a king and compared it to a showing of Kylo facing another force sensitive.

Joffrey is dead. He also was scared of combat and hid with the women, dipshit. Watch the damn series. You would applaud a chicken shit who hid with skirts as something to aspire to.

😂

Joffrey was dangerous, definitely, but he's not someone I'd describe as "intimidating."

Tyson Lannister is intimidating.
