Partly that is because comparisons are drawn, by everyone.

This is not a coincidence nor a whim. The biggest flaw of TFA is that it's too much like the first trilogy which is not the case of the prequels.

In any case, the PT proved well enough that you can pull off Star Wars as an original and expansive universe without exclusively cashing in on nostalgia.

True, cashing in when it comes to money that is. 😉

If you call being shit "pulling off Star Wars".

Well I certainly don't call repeating ANH as "pulling off Star Wars".

More like a safe cash grab on the Star Wars brand name.

But without that nostalgia aspect, the PT proved to be pretty soulless.
There was no redeeming characters (except maybe Yoda) that the audience could embrace or care less what happened to them.

There was no particular endearing fondness for Padme knowing she would give birth to Luke & Leia.

There was no charm or adulation knowing Annakin would one day be Vader.

And giving R2 the ability to fly was just downright wrong.

I actually always imagined R2 could fly even before AOTC. Not sure why, I just did.

Watch it! Dadudemon is gonna getcha!

But all that has nothing to do with the nostalgia aspect. Just with, well... bad writing and bad directing. It all just feels as if they just shot Lucas' first draft.

I disagree and think Ewan Macgregor's portrayal of Obi-Wan Kenobi was delightful

Ewan did a good job with lousy material

As was McDiarmid's performance as Palpatine, and Lee's as Count Dooku.

McDiarmid was the best!

And Lee was okay but very underused.

Macgregor was crap in TPM, neutral in AotC and great in RotS. Not that he had anything to work with in those first 2.

Why not? Wouldn't that be a perfectly valid definition?

He was better in rots than he was in Rotj. Do you agree ?

Not when the Original film in question blew audiences away with it's imagination, whilst the soft reboot felt like something we've seen before.

You found out it was t original and George himself said he was not happy with it.

SW has been a cash grab since 1983.

Disney is just following in that tradition.

They probably decided to play it safe until they get their $4Billion back, and save the risks for after.
