Originally posted by Newjakthere's always going to be some ambiguity in determining whether the use of force is justified. some cases will be clear cut and others will require a trial... that's not going to change if you change the standard to "you have to prove your life was in actual imminent danger..." it's just going to limit the capacity of citizens to protect themselves from potential threats.
Once again the issue what is reasonable and how do we expect people with no accountability to be liable for that reasonableness.
I mean most scenarios are going to end up in a I said they said debate. The main problem is that the other person involved won't be able to share their story because they will be dead.well... let's say the autopsy didn't corroborate zimmerman's story that he was on the ground and trayvon was on top of him when the shooting occurred... then you would have a legit reason to doubt his story and convict him of something. since that's not the case and it seems his story checks out, then you don't. innocent till proven guilty and all that. or actually i believe it's something like "if there's a reasonable doubt of their guilt then they are to be found innocent." there goes that "reasonable" word again. jeez, the law sure does seem kind of tricky.
either way i think it's sad trayvon got shot and i wish he could have been given a second chance at life... that being said he sort of brought it on himself in the end there. if he didn't have a thuggish mentality then he'd still be alive today. it's like they say... if you ain't about that life then don't act the part.

You cant get rid of guns. Not in America. Sorry, its just not going to happen.
Second Amendment? Amendments can be legally removed.
Gun Culture in America. People said the same thing about the smoking culture in America yet the amount of smokers in the USA have dramatically decreased over the years. So it's not impossible it will just take time.

Well, you have a point about the proliferation, even if all guns are banned for many years there will be a readily available and thriving black market. But that's just a reason to start earlier rather than later.
Overturning the second amendment is next to impossible.
Do you know why there is a second amendment?

You do know there would be a civil war if they tried to ban guns right?
You are a liberal and I don't expect you to understand why we need the 2nd, because you are for more government regulation, bigger government. However, I tell you the truth, those are what the framers didn't want.

Yeah, so King George can't come to your house and boss you around. (I also know what you mean, i.e. to protect you from your own government)
At any rate, the right to bear arms is subject to legislation already, it would be perfectly possible to ban certain types of weapons and to get stricter licenses for others, of course depending on the Supreme Court.

That's what Amendments are for.NVM, NJ covered this.
Wont happen, sorry. Civil war would ensue. You really want to see a war over guns?
We wont be fighting over slaves, this time it will be people vs government, and it would not be pretty.
Besides CA and a few states in NE, 95% of America, want guns. Including the criminals.

There's very little chance that gun nuts would actually stand up, they'll just complain and ultimately get in line.

The Supreme Court is not a legislative body, they have no power over guns or over turing the second amendment. While they are an oligarchy, they don't have absolute power. And people will tire of them.

What's been said, the gun loons would *****, cry and moan, but in the end, they'll give up their guns. Sure they'll be the odd loon here and there that will kill someone before giving up their precious. But the masses would submit.
Besides, if it was amended, then those same "but the Constitution says!" ranters would be the ones shitting on the Constitution. LoL.
