Like I said I do believe there are jobs that should allow you to have a gun but most civilians don't fall into that category. In fact putting guns into their hands has a direct impact against the overall safety of the country and it's citizens.

I don't belong to the NRA, so swing and miss.

Do you know the military does the same thing for training, they shoot at paper targets. I don't remember the last time I shot at a bottle was, I take it thats the last time you shot at something though as you are projecting.

The problem with comparing US to UK, is they are on a island, and don't have massive flooding on illegal immigration and open borders where people can just drive guns across daily. So we need a wall, and we need to close the borders.

edit - actually i'll grant an exception for the ones that help with border patrol and shit like that. they're actually contributing something... but it's still got nothing to do with the police state/tyranny. actually they're assisting the police state, not preventing it. but the ones in the middle of tennessee or whatever are just useless.

You do know that one of the primary reasons why America is so safe against a foriegn invasion is the fact that not only would they have to take on our military, but all of our civilians as well.

You act like people just sit home planning for government take over, and you being disingenuous at that as well.

alaska actually provides a nice strategic buffer against an invasion from the west.. yea a country could try to invade it... that would give the US plenty of time to mount a counter attack before they got anywhere near the continental US. it would be a disaster for whoever tried it. and the only countries with even the remotest chance at rivaling the US military are too smart to have any interest in trying to invade us. only crackpot countries like NK or ISIS might even have the motivation to do so.. and they lack the capability by a long shot.

it's my understanding that 1) our strategic buffers provided by our geography and 2) our naval supremacy and control of the world's oceans and trade routes are primarily what render the US the world's sole military superpower. making us capable of invading other countries while rendering us more or less immune to the threat of a foreign invasion.

What people don't realize or just keep ignoring is the fact that an EMP attack would render our entire military practically useless. All it would take is a single nuke detontated at just the right point in the atmosphere above our country and we would all be sent back to the dark ages for many months. Maybe even years. And Obama has done virtually nothing to strengthen our country's outdated power grid from such an attack. THat is the only way for any country on Earth to have any chance of defeating the U.S. without suffering major casualties themselves. After an EMP attack disabled us we would be extremely vulnerable to invasion from just about anyone.

People keep talking about how badass our military is but after an EMP attack it would do us no good. Only a fool would attack the U.S. otherwise.
