Yeah, so King George can't come to your house and boss you around. (I also know what you mean, i.e. to protect you from your own government)
which is incredibly silly when you think about it

i mean the argument supposedly goes that having guns is necessary to protect us from a tyrannical police state

yet we have guns... and we also have an encroaching police/security state

it would seem the theory that having guns will prevent that has been disproved

doesn't seem to work, guys. sorry. i think the founding fathers will just a bit juiced up on adrenaline and revolutionary zeal

like thomas jefferson said something along the lines of "the tree of liberty needs to be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants"

i.e. you need an armed rebellion every so often to keep the govt in line

first of all, thomas jefferson sounds like a terrible gardener

second of all, have you ever seen a country where they have semi frequent revolutions?

they have that in haiti and many south/central american countries, as well as in africa.

those countries suck, guys. it's a terrible idea. thomas jefferson was a wig wearing psychopath if you ask me.

So up armor and militarize the the police and take the guns away from the people. Sounds legit.

You cant get rid of guns. Not in America. Sorry, its just not going to happen. Why do you want to get rid of them anyways? What is it going to change for you, you just said you may never even see it happen in your lifetime, so why do you care? Do you care about all the people that die every .66 seconds around the world. The time it took me to write this, 100 people just died. You are not batting an eyelash or shedding a tear.
You added some more stuff I see. I'm not exactly against guns. They can be fun to shoot and some people do need them for their jobs. But it's hard to look at the statistics and not see they are something that should be highly controlled and regulated at the least.

I was talking about being robbed the odds of being effected by a gun related event though is much higher. I knew a kid I went to High School with. He was a freshman and I was a senior. His senior year I was helping coach the high school team while going to college. One day we heard he was shot by a friend of his. A group of them had been shooting cans and drinking. The kids walked into the line of fire to set up some cans and the guy didn't see him and shot him dead.

I've also had a gun pointed at me on two separate occasions. One was when I was roughly nine. My dad and I were out hunting with another guy and his kid. The other son put a bullet in his gun and had the safety off. He then proceeded to point the gun at me and make fake firing noises. My dead took me by the hand and we left. He said it was one of the stupidest things he had ever seen someone let a kid do.

The other occasion was when I was at a party with a friend. The person who owned the house had gotten high and drunk and decided to walk out with their shotgun and point it at a bunch of us while we were playing cards. Considering there state of mind we didn't know it was loaded or the safety was one.

Those events have taught me one thing. Not everyone is mature enough to own a firearm.

Hopefully people will be more reasonable than that.

No

So you'd shit all over the Constitution that you so claim to hold dearly in this hypothetical scenario.

So you had a 9 year old and a drunk idiot point a gun at you, this makes you think we should just give up guns?

I have had a gun pointed at me for real, by a street thuggin/mugger. Do you see me saying "OH GAWD, ban guns."

Based on?

I dont see anyone giving two shits about the militarization of the police, all you people talk about is taking away guns from the people.

Its so frustrating to talk to you fcking people. Its like you want what you want, and dont give two flying ****s about what is really going on.

Go look at the police state, then come back and tell me, oh lets take guns from people.

You know how many people cops kill or for that matter our government? Yes police are part of the government.

It makes me realize that this notion we have of the gun is flawed. Once again statistically it causes more problems than it solves. Other countries heavily regulate them and their crime rates are much lower than ours. So I see no need for everyone to have a gun. Especially see a need to keep them out of the hands of people that do not know how to properly have them.

Also I like how you used to the statement for real. Is that supposed to imply my situations weren't real enough for you?

Actually I believe we have been talking about that in other threads. Namely the ones that deal with police brutality against the black populace.

The criminals will still have guns, and the police/government, so you want to take away guns from law abiding citizens and leave them in the hands of criminals and police.

Police kill more white people then black people, yes.

And yes police kill black people.

That is the government, why dont you want to take away their guns bro?

Why don't you want to take away the governments guns? Why do you want to take away the peoples guns?

"By the people and for the people" and all.

nah, you know what we need... highly organized and well-armed right wing militias. that will save us from a tyrannical dictatorship for sure. if only germany had had more right wing militias after ww1... maybe they could've protected them from the nazi regime amirite

Actually based on how gun control worked in the UK I think we would see a decrease in criminals possessing fire arms considering they will be harder to get and most gangs and or organizations would not be able to mass produce illegal guns like they can drugs.

I also am for more regulations on police carrying firearms. Like those people that are checking parking violations probably don't need a gun. I also advocate for police to use non lethal force more. I also do not feel police really need military grade equipment and arms to do their job. Maybe a few special task forces but that's about it.

The scenario we just discussed, if the Constitution was amended to take away guns, you'd ignore it as you just said.

Just like Obama ignores the constitution now you mean? So he gets to ignore when he wants but everyone else has to follow the liberal agenda. Nah

Okay... and the rest of my points go to the wayside why?

You tried to make a claim that wanted to keep criminals armed and keep police with overwhelming force. The rest of the post showed where I do not want those things.

But please focus on the fact that one thing I said I wanted to see is actually what happens.

Also you realize this is hypotetical.

Fat chance on them ever not being, fat chance.
