But nobody insists the people do the cops jobs. I insist they get half as upset over the piece of shit thugs doing piece of shit thuggy things as they do against the cops.
What makes you think they aren't?
Who do you complain to when you have a crime problem? The police.
That's part of the problem. People are complaining that they do not have a place to go to go to with their crime problems, because the place they're supposed to go to for crimes is one of their problems.
The complaints about crime not being dealt with are the ones you're interpreting as them not caring.
I wish there would be a teeny tiny ounce of accountability on the non cop side.
Keep in mind that by 'teeny tiny ounce of accountability' you are simply asking people to do the cop's job.
When you have a crime problem, you report it to the police. If that option is a bad] one for you because that is often going to result you getting in trouble, you've seen friends or loved ones treated poorly, harassed by police or not given a fair shake by the court systems.
You're asking them to be accountable without, somehow, turning to the police because that'd be using the police side. For everyone else, the way we take accountability in our neighborhoods
The whole point is with bad cops who don't work with the neighborhoods, they're caught between a rock and a hard place.
Imagine you're at a job. You have a problem with a co-worker. You go to HR, the department in charge of dealing with internal problems. HR talks to boss and cuts your hours- and thus paycheck- because they don't like how you look. You have another problem with co-worker. This time you don't go to HR. You complain about situation with HR. People then tell you, "Stop putting it all on human resources, can't you take some accountability for it?".
That's basically the situation.
You can't just say 'take accountability' when the problem people complaining about is, "Hey, the people we're supposed to go to for help if we try and take accountability keep treating us like crap, and occasionally kill us. This makes you telling us to take accountability pretty shitty when you have someone you can go to and trust and we don't."
Er I am asking them to be held accountable for the state of their neighborhoods. I'm not saying become the police. I'm saying stop acting like cops are the only problem. So holy shit stop saying people want them to do the cops jobs.
I'm saying take some damn responsibility for the shithole you live in, don't just place all blame on the cops.
Holy shit it's a her?
But yeah my issue is I say we multi-task and the response is "we cleanse out the shit by getting rid of corrupt cops" when that isn't multi-tasking. Nor is the solution so simple as to say no corrupt cops= these places won't be piles of shit.
So then I don't want to see people saying they find multi-tasking is a good idea if they are really going to go "well yeah, but we really just need to focus on the cops". Nope, just..noope.
It's also the chicken or the egg scenario isn't it? Seems like if a place is a crime infested shithole it's because the cops are corrupt. It'd be outright impossible for cops to see they are dealing with a crime infested shithole and go "well screw it, might as well be corrupt". I am not suggesting that line of thought would be correct, merely it just seems to never cross anyone's mind.
But again these cops who wield so much power are easier to take out then gang bangers. It's why police corruption is going to be solved any day now.
Truth is though I don't think any of you would want all corruption gone because if it was then what excuse would you have for the state of these neighborhoods?
Okay let us just take this a different route instead. I will of course agree getting rid of corruption in the cops is important, I know first hand this exists. Unfortunately the courts are also a problem, but the thing there is they aren't just a problem for minorities or anything like that..the entire system needs to be completely redone. Which is infinitely more difficult then getting rid of corruption or gang violence.
But okay in addition to that what else can we do to help clean up neighborhoods? This is what I mean by multi-tasking, since merely fighting corruption with the hopes it will also help clean up a neighborhood is not multi-tasking it is trying to kill two birds with one stone. So while we are rooting out corruption what can we simultaneously be doing to help these neighborhoods?
We need to attack this on multiple fronts and it goes beyond just crime, we need to fix the way families in certain communities operate, we need to fix the number of single parent households, we need to fix education. For instance I will just toss this out there: there should be no dropping out of school. Kids can drop out at age 16 right? Well nope, that has to go. They can choose not to go to college if they want, but they have to go to high school. Yes an actual school, because it's not just about knowledge but about interacting with others.
We need an increase in sexual education in these communities as well since that ties into the whole "single parent" thing. Sometimes these women have kids because they know the government will pay for it, so maybe we stop that as well. Just overall change how stuff like Welfare operates. So for instance if you are on welfare no more kids, you don't pop out any more children and if you do you lose welfare because it means you don't take your situation seriously so why should anyone else?
Let me see what else can we do..I know the courts are f*cked but what about pushing for lesser sentences for non-violent drug related offenses. While also pushing for far far more severe sentences for any gang related activities. Though I guess the problem with that is a lot of drug dealers are probably affiliated with gangs. But then you know what if you're dealing drugs for a gang it's not a non-violent offense then so you reap what you sow.
Oh to me if a community is mostly black then their police force should be mostly black.
So alright you can only edit messages for 15 minutes after posting them so more ideas requires another post. Now remember people we are talking about ideas to help clean up neighborhoods. So we already have "corruption is bad and needs to go" listed so keep in mind that doesn't need to be mentioned again, it has been noted.
Hmm what else can we do? Okay I am sure you can already give anonymous tips to the police but maybe we just highlight for people so they are aware of how to do it? So they don't have to feel fear for doing the right thing and snitching on a gang banger if they know something.
Now how do we stop gang members from accidentally shooting small children in the face? I'd say teach them how to shoot so they only kill other gang bangers but of course they probably aren't going to come forward and willingly take those lessons plus a lot of people would have issues with the entire idea. Plus when thinking about it..who knows if it would prevent them from accidentally shooting people? I'm guessing it's not easy to aim in a drive-by even if you know what you are doing.
Full body armor for all children just isn't practical.
We are talking about how the problems within the black community are many and while tackling police corruption is a viable option to begin to solve these problems it isn't the only option nor necessarily the one that would solve the largest chunk of the issues.
In other words what ways can we fix things? Besides "no more bad cops" that is. Basically whilst we are tackling corruption what else can we do?

Until blacks own the problem then the solution is vacant.Good luck with that while we still have the majority using blame in the media.
I find this can't be said enough. I can talk about these problems until I am blue in the face, but at the end of the day I'm white and it means something different from me then it does coming from someone within that community. It's part of what I have in mind when I talk about how I wish they'd get as impassioned over certain other things as they do with stuff having to do with white police officers.
