EW on AI Premise
[Wednesday, February 14th, 2001]A recent edition of Entertainment Weekly reveled the basic premise for AI:
What we do know: Spielberg's script (the first he's written solo since Close Encounters of the Third Kind) is based on Brian W. Aldiss' 1969 short story "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long," about a boy android threatened with obsolescence. We also hear that this Osment kid is the real deal. "Haley is a consumate actor. Always prepared. Always focused," says an exec close to the production. "Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart are alive and well in this young man."
