Latifahs 'Beauty Shop' Gets Direction From Woodruff
[Friday, January 16th, 2004]Bille Woodruff (Honey) is set to direct Queen Latifah in the comedy Beauty Shop, a spin-off character from Barbershop 2, according to Variety.
Latifah plays Gina, who moves from Chicago to Atlanta so her daughter can attend a prestigious music school. She becomes a stylist and, when her scamming boss takes credit for her work, opens her own shop, where her uptown clients clash with those from downtown.
MGM put the film together last year after Latifah established herself as a bankable screen presence with Bringing Down the House and her Oscar-nominated performance in Chicago.
Beauty Shop begins shooting in March, Latifah will next be seen in Barbershop 2 which is released on 6 February 2004.
