Fishburne Gets 'Biker Boyz' Greenlit

After Fox 2000 put it in turnaround, the urban motorcycle project "Biker Boyz" has driven off to DreamWorks Pictures, where it has been given a green light, reports The Hollywood Reporter

They also have a fully loaded cast headed by Laurence Fishburne, Derek Luke, Orlando Jones, Brendan Fehr and Meagan Good.

"Biker Boyz" is based on an article of the same name penned by Michael Gougis and published in April 2000 in the alternative newsweekly New Times Los Angeles.

Billed as a contemporary Western on motorcycles, "Biker Boyz" is set in the rarely seen world of black motorcycle clubs and follows the real-life exploits of Manuel Galloway (Fishburne), a California motorcycle club president and quarter-mile racer also known as the King of Cali. He's surrounded by lawyers and city workers by day who drop their "normal" lives to don leather gear and bet on their bikes.

Shooting is set to start July 31 with filmmaker Reggie Rock Bythewood ("Dancing in September") at the helm.
