David Spade Is Adopted By Weisman

Sam Weisman has come aboard to direct Paramount Pictures' comedy "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star" starring David Spade, reports The Hollwood Reporter.

"Child," which Spade co-wrote with Fred Wolf, will see the comedian play a former child star, washed up at age 35. Feeling that he was robbed of his childhood, the man hires an entire foster family -- complete with mother, father and siblings -- to re-create the family and childhood he never had.

A read-through of the project was held Monday for the Paramount brass. Actors Julie Bowen, Craig Bierko, Harry Shearer and Spade's "Just Shoot Me" co-star George Segal were among those who participated with Spade.

It is expected that some of those actors will be cast in the feature. Production will begin in July while Spade is on hiatus from his NBC sitcom "Just Shoot Me."
