Knight To Make 'Eastern Promises' For BBC

BBC Films has struck a deal with Celador Films to co-finance "Eastern Promises," a script by Steven Knight whose first movie, "Dirty Pretty Things," premiered Sept. 6 at the Venice Film Festival, reports Variety

"Dirty Pretty Things," directed by Stephen Frears, was also developed by Celador with BBC Films, which co-financed production with Miramax.

Like "Dirty Pretty Things," "Eastern Promises" is a thriller set in the immigrant underside of contemporary London. It centers upon the exploitation of girls from Eastern Europe who come to the U.K. illegally in search of a better life, but find themselves forced into prostitution.
