Disney Set For Coast Guard Action Pic

The Walt Disney Co. has paid mid-six figures to acquire the pitch "The Guardian" from scribe Ron Brinkerhoff ("D-Tox"), reports Variety.

Alaska-set project, described as "Top Gun" in the Coast Guard, is the story of a legendary rescue swimmer who, after losing his crew in a fatal crash, mentors a young recruit, teaching him the meaning of sacrifice.

"I've never seen a film about the Coast Guard," explained Brinkerhoff. "I think it's one of the most underappreciated branches of the military which has a unique mandate to save lives. Out of the 35,000 members of the Coast Guard there are only 280 rescue swimmers. These individuals really are the best of the best."
