Daniel Craig Joins 'The Golden Compass'

Daniel CraigDaniel Craig is set to join Nicole Kidman in New Line Cinema's The Golden Compass, says Variety.

The feature, written and directed by Chris Weitz, is the the first installment of an intended trilogy based on the Philip Pullman series 'His Dark Materials'. Craig will play Lord Asriel, a ruthless and mysterious adventurer who is the uncle of Lyra Belacqua, the young girl who journeys to a parallel universe to save her best friend.

He will be joined by Eva Green on the project, where she plays a witch who helps the young girl navigate a world filled with shape-shifting and otherworldly creatures.

Production is currently scheduled to begin September 4th in the U.K., with a slated December 2007 release.
