Christina Ricci Gets Involved With 'Monster'

Christina Ricci is in negotiations to star opposite Charlize Theron in the indie feature "Monster," with first-time helmer Patty Jenkins directing from her own script, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

"Monster" is based on the true story of Aileen Wuornos (Theron), whom some have called the nation's first female serial killer. She was executed Oct. 9 by the state of Florida for her crimes, which included the slayings of seven men during the course of nine months beginning in 1989.

The project will focus on the love story that set in motion the series of events that began the murders.

A lesbian, who would be played by Ricci, had fallen in love with Wuornos, who, while not gay herself, saw the woman as her last chance at love. While working as a prostitute -- which became a way to support the duo -- Wuornos quickly became intolerant and suspect of the men she turned tricks for and didn't think twice about killing them if she felt threatened.

"Monster," described as being in the genre of "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Badlands," does not go as far as Wuornos' death, instead ending with her in jail awaiting sentencing.

Production is scheduled to start in mid-January in Florida.
