The Monsters Come Early
[Saturday, February 10th, 2001]The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the premiere for the Pixar movie "Monsters Inc." has been moved a few weeks earlier than expected:
"Monsters, Inc." will hit movie screens a few weeks earlier than planned as Pixar and Disney aim to give their digitally animated film an edge over Warner Bros.' rival "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." "Monsters," originally touted by the studio as a Thanksgiving release, will now open wide Nov. 2, two weeks before "Harry Potter" hits screens Nov. 16. The move "allows us to position ourselves as one of two holiday films of the season before 'Harry Potter' enters the market," Pixar CEO Steve Jobs told analysts during a conference call about Pixar's fourth-quarter earnings. Jobs also used the call to promote the visual effects of "Monsters," which features the voices of Billy Crystal and John Goodman. "The fur is so realistic that you won't believe your eyes," Jobs crowed. "It not only looks real, it moves real."
