Mia Maestro Joins Che Guevara On The Road

Mia Maestro ("Frida") has been cast as the female lead in director Walter Salles' Spanish-language "The Motorcycle Diaries," reports The Hollywood Reporter.

"Motorcycle" recounts famed revolutionary Che Guevara's journey as a young 23-year-old medical student traversing South America in the 1950s with his friend Alberto Granado. Gael Garcia Bernal ("Y Tu Mama Tambien") will portray Guevara, with Maestro playing his love interest, Chichina.

The project is based on the journals kept by Guevara and Granado when they were on the road. Jose Rivera penned the screenplay.

U.K.-based FilmFour and Germany's Senator Films are financing.

Shooting begins in Argentina, Chile and Peru late this month.
