[Tuesday, October 29th, 2002]Academy Award nominees James Garner and Joan Allen have signed to co-star in the New Line Cinema drama "The Notebook," reports The Hollywood Reporter
Garner and Allen will star opposite previously announced cast members Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams and Gena Rowlands in the Nick Cassavetes-directed adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' romantic novel.
"Notebook" follows a young couple (McAdams and Gosling) who meet in their teens and are reunited after World War II. The story of the couple is told to a nursing-home resident (Rowlands) by a man (Garner) who regularly visits to read her the story from a notebook. By the end, it becomes clear that the old woman is the young girl in the story and the narrator is her suitor. Allen will play McAdams' mother in the flashback sequences.
