Ashanti Gets Part In 'Coach Carter'

Ashanti is heading to big screen for her acting debut in a supporting role in Coach Carter for helmer Thomas Carter, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Samuel L. Jackson is toplining the project, which revolves around controversial Richmond (Calif.) High School basketball coach Ken Carter. Coach Carter, as he was known, made national news in 1999 when he benched his entire undefeated basketball team for poor academic performance. He forfeited two league games and made the gym off-limits until students raised their grades, a move that drew praise and criticism from parents and school officials.

Coach Carter is scheduled to start shooting this month.
