Gibson May Direct Caviezel As Jesus Christ

Mel Gibson has scouted Italian locations for "Passion," a film that would explore the life of Christ, and he's talked to Jim Caviezel about the leading role, reports Variety.

While Gibson would produce the project, he's undecided as to whether he'd direct it. Nor has any studio -- including 20th Century Fox -- made any room at the inn.

Nonetheless, Gibson is taking steps to ensure the authenticity of his project. According to Italy's national Catholic newspaper, Avvenire, the actor has consulted with high-level theologians and church officials about the project.
